Wired.com reports that federal authorities said Thursday they are reducing the criminal charges levied against Kevin Cogill , the Los Angeles man accused of uploading nine pre-leased GUNS N' ROSES tracks from the band's long-awaited "Chinese Democracy" album. Los Angeles federal prosecutor Craig Missakian declined to say why the U.S. attorney's office has changed the charges from a felony to misdemeanor, a move limiting Cogill 's maximum prison exposure from five years to one. According to Billboard.biz , GUNS N' ROSES ' new single, "Chinese Democracy" , has made a splashy bow across a bevy of Billboard 's and Radio and Records ' rock airplay charts after only five days of airplay. It debuts at No. 12 on Mainstream Rock, No. 15 on Active Rock, No. 37 on Modern Rock and No. 7 on Rock. On Billboard 's Mainstream Rock chart, which began in 1981, it's the band's best debut since 1991 when "Don't Cry" opened at No. 4. A widget for GUNS N' ROSES ' long-awaited new album, "Chinese Democracy" featuring a countdown to the CD's November 23 release date and an audio stream of the title track is available at this location .

Echo Jet have decided to call it a day due to disappointing sales and promotion of their self-titled debut which was released on June 10th, 2008.

Lionsgate has announced the iTunes -exclusive release of ROB ZOMBIE 's "War Zone" , the lead single from the soundtrack "Punisher: War Zone" , from Marvel Comics ' latest film adaptation of fictional vigilante and deadly antihero Frank Castle . This original track, written for the film, is the first new music in three years from Zombie and has already been heard and linked to by thousands of fans via the film's web site where it was posted in its entirety on Monday, October 20. This special iTunes release is a Halloween Zombie treat for fans who will be equally pleased when the album attacks stores on November 25. The film opens nationwide on December 5.

The Angels & Demons Teaser Trailer!
Columbia Pictures has revealed the new teaser trailer for Angels & Demons , hitting theaters on May 15th. American Dad Gets a Fifth Season
"American Dad" executive producers Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman have signed new overall deals with 20th Century Fox TV , reports Variety . The deals come as Fox officially greenlights a fifth season of "Dad." The show is in its fourth year, but the lengthy timetable for animated series usually requires an early pickup. Barker and Weitzman are locked to continue as showrunners on "Dad," which comes from the Seth MacFarlane hit-making factory. Barker and Weitzman -- who until now have operated as writing partners under their Underdog Productions -- have separated and signed individual pacts with the studio. Production on the fourth season of "Dad" is wrapping up, just as the show's writing team is starting to break stories for the show's fifth season.

David Lindsay-Abaire to Pen Spider-Man 4
Playwright David Lindsay-Abaire (upcoming Inkheart ), who won a Pulitzer in 2007 for his drama "Rabbit Hole," is in final negotiations to write Spider-Man 4 for Columbia Pictures, says The Hollywood Reporter . Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire are back as director and star, respectively, as are series producers Laura Ziskin and Avi Arad. Kirsten Dunst also is expected to return for the latest movie featuring the Marvel Comics character. Plot details are under lock and key. James Vanderbilt previously wrote a draft of Spider-Man 4 . Lindsay-Abaire's "Rabbit Hole," which starred Cynthia Nixon and Tyne Daly, hit the Broadway stage in 2006 and won four Tonys, including best play. The writer also is known for the play "Fuddy Meers."

IESB noted that a custom Buell motorcycle will not be used to ferry Snake Eyes around in the movie, despite another site claiming such a thing.

THE AVENGERS
Remember that rumor that Earth's Mightiest Heroes will square off against Ed Norton's emerald giant? IESB says "nuh uh" while quoting an announcement from the studio that goes like this: "'THE AVENGERS' will bring together the super hero team of Marvel Comics characters for the first time ever, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk and more, as they are forced to band together to battle the biggest foe they've ever faced."

Studios Battle for EA Hell Game
Variety reports that four studios are in a high-stakes bidding battle for rights to a new video game from Electronic Arts that hasn't even been publicly announced yet. The game, which is expected to be released late next year, involves a journey through the depths of hell. EA hasn't officially titled it yet, though it's likely to be called "Dante's Inferno," as it's a modern interpretation of the epic poem. By Thursday evening, Universal, Paramount, New Regency and MGM were battling for the property, after Warner Bros. dropped out earlier in the day.

Slayer 's new track " Psychopathy Red " can be previewed online here . As previously reported, the song is inspired by Russian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo and is one of the three new tracks the band recorded during a recent studio session. The group expect to reconvene in the studio in the coming months to finish off recording new material for their next album which is due out in the summer of 2009.

Samuel L. Jackson is set to star as the bad guy in Columbia Pictures' remake of Berry Gordy's 1985 cult classic The Last Dragon , says The Hollywood Reporter . Jackson will play Sho'nuff, the Shogun of Harlem, a role played in the original by the late Julius Carry.

On the Set of Friday the 13th !
ComingSoon.net's horror arm ShockTillYouDrop.com recently visited the set of Friday the 13th in Round Rock, Texas (about 15 minutes out from Austin) and has posted its full report here ! Joaquin Phoenix Retires From Acting
Joaquin Phoenix, who turned just 34 years old yesterday, has announced he is retiring from acting and going to concentrate on his music. He recorded the album "Walk the Line" for the movie of the same name and is now working on a new album with Tim Burgess. Phoenix's last movie is the completed Two Lovers , a drama directed by James Gray and co-starring Gwyneth Paltrow. Phoenix made the announcement in a interview with E! Online, whose reporter thought he was kidding.

Empire Online talked to Mark Millar ( Wanted , upcoming Kick-Ass ) more about his proposed " Superman " epic. Here are several clips from the article:Mark has been working closely with a 'big-Hollywood action director' – who he refuses to name at this stage – on a pitch for what he is calling the Magnum Opus of Superman stories. His idea is for an 8-hour saga, split into 3 films to be released a year apart, in a Lord of the Rings fashion."I want to start on Krypton, a thousand years ago, and end with Superman alone on Planet Earth, the last being left on the planet, as the yellow sun turns red and starts to supernova, and he loses his powers." Beatles-Harmonix Video Game Announced
Van Toffler , president of MTV Networks, has just made it official that Harmonix/MTV Games and Apple Corp will “create a brand new video game featuring the music of the iconic Beatles.” Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos also said that it's not just a “ Rock Band ” song expansion pack; it will be “a new, full-grown, custom game built from the ground up.” The game is slated for release in Holiday 2009.

Led Zepplein will embark on a tour in the coming months, however front-man Robert Plant has no plans to work with the band again. In an interview with the BBC bassist John Paul Jones said the band “are trying out a couple of singers.” Alter Bridge front-man Myles Kennedy is rumored to fill in for Plant on the tour.

Best Buy and Geffen Records have finally made an official announcement confirming that "Chinese Democracy" will be released exclusively through Best Buy on November 23. The 14-song set will be available on CD, vinyl, and as a download. While singer Axl Rose has remained silent, co-managers Irving Azoff and Andy Gould said in a statement, "The release of 'Chinese Democracy' marks a historic moment in rock n'roll. We're launching with a monumental campaign...that matches the groundbreaking sound of the album itself. GUNS N' ROSES fans have every reason to celebrate, for this is only the beginning."

Slayer 's recent studio sessions yielded three new tracks, including " Psychopathy Red ", a song featured in a recent clip on the website of UK metal magazine " Metal Hammer ". The song is said to be inspired by the Russian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo and was penned by guitarist Jeff Hanneman . At least one track from the sessions will be made available as part of a digital download package being offered to attendees of the bands ongoing overseas " Unholy Alliance: Chapter III Tour " with Trivium , Mastodon and Amon Amarth . Slayer are expected to re-enter the studio in the coming months to continue tracking new material for their next album which is set for a release in the summer of 2009.

Mushroomhead have posted a video for their track " Save Us " online here . It comes from the bands newly released DVD offering, " Volume 2 ", which hit stores today through Filthy Hands / Megaforce .

7th Son have inked a deal with Roadrunner Records and will begin recording their debut effort for the label in mid-November with producer Michael "Elvis" Baskette ( Incubus , Story Of The Year ).

In Flames are planning a South American tour in February with an exact routing to be announced in the coming weeks.

Pascal Laugier Helming Hellraiser
The Hollywood Reporter says Pascal Laugier ( Martyrs ) is in final negotiations to write and direct Dimension's re-imagining of Hellraiser , one of horrormeister Clive Barker's best-known creations. Released in 1987, Hellraiser told the story of an unfaithful wife who attempts to assist her dead lover in his escape from hell. The movie introduced viewers to a race of demons called Cenobites, most notably one nicknamed Pinhead -- who became one of the most enduring horror characters of the decade -- who was summoned using an antique puzzle box. Dimension has been hoping to relaunch the franchise for the past couple of years, first hiring Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo to write and direct a remake then hiring Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton to write a new draft."This is a dream project for me," Laugier said. "I know Clive Barker's work very well, and I would never betray what he has done. Fans are expecting a definitive 'Hellraiser,' and I don't want to take that away from them."

Shyamalan, Dowdles & Nelson Team on Devil
M. Night Shyamalan and Media Rights Capital have formalized the first project in their three-picture deal to hatch horror films, reports Variety , They've set Brian Nelson ( 30 Days of Night ) to write Devil , a film that will be directed by Quarantine helmers John and Andrew Dowdle. The supernatural thriller is based on an original story by Shyamalan, who'll produce with Sam Mercer under The Night Chronicles banner. The Dowdle siblings will be executive producers. The film will be PG-13 and will begin production next year.
MRC set The Night Chronicles as a financing and production partnership with Shyamalan in July. The company's goal is to generate one genre film per year over three years, with Shyamalan hatching the ideas and overseeing the selection of talent the creative direction.

The Return of Xander Cage Happens in 2010
Last month, it was announced that Columbia Pictures, producer Joe Roth, director Rob Cohen and Vin Diesel were reteaming for XXX: The Return of Xander Cage . Now, Collider says that Cohen has revealed target dates for shooting and the film's release:"Yes, they're doing it with me and producer Joe Roth. We made the deal recently, it's named xXx: The Return of Xander Cage. We met the writers yesterday and we're trying to get into production by late spring, to have it out for the summer of 2010."

The Grudge 3
Revolves around a young Japanese woman who holds the secret to ending the Grudge curse, where she travels to a haunted Chicago apartment building and encounters a family battling to survive the ghosts. Together they confront the ghost of Kayako to save their souls from their impending tragic fate. The Grudge 3 will be released on DVD in 2009. View the trailer here.

Universal Developing Villains Feature
Universal has acquired the movie rights to Viper Comics' graphic novel "Villains" and hired Matt Jennison and Brent Strickland to write the adaptation. Sean Bailey is producing via his Idealogy, says The Hollywood Reporter . The graphic novel, by Adam Cogan and Ryan Cody, puts super bad guys center stage and is described as follows:Nick Corrigan is an aimless 20-something who discovers that his aging neighbor used to be the notorious supervillain known as "Hardliner", now retired and living in hiding for the past few decades. Rather than turn him in to the authorities, Nick decides to blackmail him in exchange for lessons in the fine art of career super-crime. But the old pro is about to teach his student some lessons he'll never forget. Idealogy's Matt Smith is executive producing. Viper Comics' Jessie Garza will co-produce. Idealogy is also developing Tr2n at Disney with Joe Kosinski directing. Jennison and Strickland are writing Wonder Woman for Warner Bros. and Joel Silver.

Heroes Wiki has an exclusive interview with actor Ntare Mwine, foreseeing some things about his role on the show. "He is sort of serving as a spiritual guide for the characters he has interacted with so far," Mwine said. "Maybe it's best to quote Tim Kring. I asked him how he saw the character, and he said he saw him as a Yoda-like figure. That actually gave me a lot of insight as to how he saw the character and the role he plays in terms of heroes and villains. He is one who tries to pull people to him for the forces of good."

Parenting.com and ESRB Partner to Educate Parents About Video Games and the Rating System in Time for the Holidays
New Tools and Resources Help Prepare Parents for the Gift-Buying Season The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), the non-profit, self-regulatory body which assigns age and content ratings for video games, has partnered with Bonnier Corp.'s Parenting Group to offer moms a series of new online tools and content on Parenting.com that will help them make informed choices about the video games their children play. The partnership is expected to generate a total of nearly 50 million parent impressions, and has been timed to begin at the start of the busy Holiday shopping season when more than half of all games are sold each year. "As we head into the Holiday season, parents are keeping their ears open for gift ideas, and video games are a perennial favorite. But just like movies and TV shows, not all games are intended for kids," said ESRB president Patricia Vance. "That said, video games are actually among the easiest of media for parents to control, and for the readers of Parenting it just got even easier. With the tools, resources and information we're providing on Parenting.com, moms will have all the help they need when it comes to choosing the right games for their family." Through this new partnership, Parenting.com will offer readers an ESRB rating search widget designed exclusively for Parenting. AC/DC's Black Ice CD Album Hits Number One in U.S. as Walmart Rocks Industry With New Sales Platform
Walmart is pleased to join Columbia Records today to announce a milestone record breaking event for AC/DC's Black Ice, reaching Number One this week in U.S. music sales. Selling more than 780,000 units in the U.S. since its release Oct. 20, Black Ice also represents the first Number One album for the band on the album charts in the U.S. Exclusively sold through Walmart and Sam's Club locations and online at walmart.com, samsclub.com and acdc.com, the new CD release represents the fastest selling album for Walmart this year.

Puscifer ( Maynard James Keenan and friends) have released their new nine song remix collection, " D Is For Dubby ", over at www.puscifer.com . The outing features a variety of remixes done by Lustmord . In other news, tentative plans are being laid for a live Puscifer show in the coming months, possibly in Las Vegas, NV in February.

As I Lay Dying will be filming a string of their November shows for an upcoming as-yet untitled live DVD outing expected to see a release in the spring. The Fall Of Troy are gearing up for a late 2009 run with The #12 Looks Like You , Warship and Black Houses in tow. The trek will kick off on November 28th with dates and venues to be revealed shortly. In other news, the band have finished work on their " Ghostship " demos, now dubbed " Phantoms On The Horizon ", and will have it for sale with them as a special tour only EP on the aforementioned trek. The band had the following to say about the EP:
"We have spent the last 4 and a 1/2 years on this record, it's a step up from anything we felt we've ever done. And we hope to give back to everyone who's been waiting so long to hear this song(s) for so long as we have. We love you, and need you all. Mad respect, this one's for all of you guys who have been around for it all, and waited for it as well."

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS /ex- VELVET REVOLVER frontman Scott Weiland will perform on ABC-TV 's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" during the November sweep. The exact date for his appearance has not yet been announced.

LINKIN PARK frontman Chester Bennington has told Billboard.com that the band is planning "a concept record" for its fourth album, which the group will start recording in early November. Bennington said, "[we] never envisioned ourselves doing a concept record, but we see an opportunity to do something really cool so we jumped on it, and we'll see how it comes out. I think it's a challenge and we'll see if we can rise to the occasion."

Fox Searchlight Takes Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test
Fox Searchlight has picked up The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test , a project which reunites the Milk team of director Gus Van Sant and writer Dustin Lance Black, says The Hollywood Reporter . "Kool-Aid," based on a 1968 Tom Wolfe book, is Wolfe's account of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" author Ken Kesey and a group dubbed the Merry Pranksters as they drive across the country in a DayGlo-painted school bus dubbed Furthur, reaching personal and collective revelations through the use of LSD and other psychedelic drugs. Richard Gladstein and his Film Colony banner are attached to produce.

Jonas Brothers to the Big Screen with Farting Dog
20th Century Fox has locked the Jonas Brothers to make their feature starring debut in Walter the Farting Dog , reports Variety . Based on a best-selling series of books by William Kotzwinkle and Glenn Murray, the film is being adapted by Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen into a family film that will revolve around Nick, Joe and Kevin Jonas, as well as their younger brother Frankie. The film shoots next spring and is a potential directing project for Peter and Bobby Farrelly, who'll produce with Bradley Thomas through the trio's Conundrum. The title character in the "Walter" books is a fat dog with severe flatulence. The brothers play musicians whose parents are asked to care for the dog by an aunt just before she passes away. While his brothers play music, Frankie and the gaseous hound get involved in a plot that involves liberating a koi fish and thwarting jewel thieves.

First Look at Angels & Demons
USA Today has published a first look at Columbia Pictures' The Da Vinci Code prequel, Angels & Demons . Again directed by Ron Howard, written by Akiva Goldsman and starring Tom Hanks, the adaptation of Robert Langdon's book hits theaters on May 15, 2009. The new film, co-starring Ayelet Zurer, Ewan McGregor, Pierfrancesco Favino and August Fredrik, will move quicker than the first pic, says the article:The adaptation of Dan Brown's novel continues the sleuthing adventures of Robert Langdon (Hanks), a Harvard expert in religious symbols who discovers a conspiracy to destroy the Vatican. Da Vinci collected $758 million worldwide, but even Grazer says the movie moved a little slowly. Angels, by contrast, sprints from crypts, catacombs and cathedrals. In adapting the hugely successful Da Vinci novel, "I think we may have been too reverential toward it," Grazer says. "We got all the facts of the book right, but the movie was a little long and stagey." In Angels, "Langdon doesn't stop and give a speech," Grazer says. "When he speaks, he's in motion."

Paramount Puts Footloose on the Fast Track
Paramount Pictures has fast-tracked Footloose , hoping to get the film ready for High School Musical 3: Senior Year director Kenny Ortega and star Zac Efron to start production next spring, says Variety . The studio has brought on Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist director Peter Sollett to rewrite the Jon Hartmere script and hired Craig Zadan and Neil Meron to join Dylan Sellers as producer. Zadan and Meron are established producers of musicals Chicago and Hairspray , the latter of which was Efron's first feature. Zadan also was a producer of the original 1984 Footloose . They join Sellers, who has put two years of work into the musical with Ortega. While Sollett rewrites the Hartmere script, the studio is working on new songs that will complement some of the memorable original tunes from the film that made Kevin Bacon a star.

Speaking of masked men, the Los Angeles Times also talked to Seth Rogen about the rewrites on the project. "Stephen Chow is one of my favorite directors of all time," Rogen said. "The fact that he wants to come to America to make this movie with us is incredible. We're rewriting it right now with a lot of Stephen's notes and ideas. We wanted a director to come on and bring his own sensibilities to it. He had a lot of great ideas about how they could meet, ideas about how their history could have developed. And I don't want to give too much away, but he had a lot of very influential ideas about how we would develop the emotions of the character. Which for us is very important." Release date, June 25, 2010.

Marvel's Kevin Feige talked to MTV , who discussed the Brian K. Vaughan property. "I love the idea. Brian brought to Marvel one of the best new concepts that we've had in quite some time," Feige said. "It's very different than anything we've done before. I love the idea of kids banding together, discovering this thing, which I think all kids secretly wonder at one time or another whether their parents are good or evil. Well, these guys find out, unfortunately, that their parents happen to be supervillains. I loved, when I was a kid, movies like 'Goonies' and 'Explorers' -- and a non-genre example of that is 'Stand by Me' -- the idea that when I came home from school, I could go on an adventure anywhere." According to Yahoo! Tech , a Gene Simmons Axe Guitar will be released this Halloween. The axe-shaped guitar is compatible with both Guitar Hero and Rock Band , and features a bi-directional strum bar, an analog whammy bar, and ultra-responsive fret buttons.The guitar, which is only compatible with the Playstation 2 and 3, also comes with a sticker of Gene Simmons ' face and signature on the front. Guitar Hero: Metallica
GameSpot has uploaded a high-quality version of the official trailer for Guitar Hero: Metallica , which appears as an unlockable Easter egg in in both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions of Guitar Hero: World Tour . Island Records have pulled the plug on Burn Halo , the new band featuring former Eighteen Visions front-man James Hart. The band will instead release their as-yet-untitled debut album via their own Rawkhead Rekords, however a release date has yet to be set.

Warner Bros. Acquires Ninja Scroll
Alex Tse ( Watchmen ) will write Ninja Scroll , Warners Bros. Pictures' adaptation of the classic Japanese anime feature. Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way is producing along with Madhouse Pictures and Jungo Maruta."Ninja" is set in feudal Japan and follows a ninja who must fight eight demonic warriors in order to save Japan. The hard-R movie , released in 1993 in Japan, featured a villain with stone skin, a hunchback with a wasp nest as his hump and a woman whose snake tattoos come to life. Jennifer Davisson Killoran and Mike Ireland are producing for Appian, which has a first-look deal with Warners.

Killer Films Developing William the Conqueror
Killer Films has signed a deal with the GC Corp. to co-produce the medieval action film William the Conqueror by screenwriters Brian Edgar and Derek Wallbank, reports Variety . The script follows the rise of the illegitimate son of the Duke of Normandy to the English crown in 1066 following the Battle of Hastings. The project marks a left turn from Killer's well-known indie projects, which include Boys Don't Cry , Far From Heaven and Hedwig and the Angry Inch . "This is a big-budget studio movie . For many years we've been interested in a bigger canvas. It was just a matter of finding the right project," Killer Films' Pamela Koffler told the trade.

Crispy Gamer lands $8.25 million
Crispy Gamer , a video game site that has emerged from beta with 1 million unique visitors, said Monday it has raised $8.25 million from Constellation Ventures . Crispy Gamer's executives have their sights set on attracting video game junkies. The site features the basics: news, reviews, and previews. But it boasts a unique revenue model. According to the company, it won't run any advertising from video game publishers. Instead of going with such ads, Crispy Gamer will use its predominantly male demographic, ages 18 to 49, to attract advertisers outside the video game industry, such as tech and fast food companies. According to Crispy Gamer, the plan will allow it to establish a significant ethical barrier between game editorial and game makers. Whether Crispy Gamer's strategy will work remains to be seen. The company is competing in a space dominated by two major players -- GameSpot and IGN --that take game publishers' advertising dollars. To snub such money could be considered radical, given the interests of its readers. But Crispy Gamer wants to convince potential readers that it's taking great strides to be as independent as possible.

Ticketmaster also announced that Irving Azoff , founder and chief executive officer of Front Line , will become Chief Executive Officer of Ticketmaster . Upon completion of the transaction, Ticketmaster will change its name to Ticketmaster Entertainment, Inc. , to reflect its continued emergence as a diversified live entertainment and marketing company.

Chimaira have announced their 9th annual " Chimaira Christmas " show. It will take place at the House Of Blues in Cleveland, OH on December 30th. More info on it can be found here . Zeuss ( Hatebreed , The Autumn Offering ) will mix the album, which is slated for an April 28th release date through Ferret Music .

Crispin Glover Joins Alice in Wonderland
Crispin Glover has signed on to play the Knave of Hearts in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland at Walt Disney Pictures. Glover joins Mia Wasikowska as Alice and a cast that includes Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter. Burton is using a combination of live action and performance-capture technology to tell the Lewis Carroll story. The APA-repped Glover is no stranger to performance-capture technology: He worked in the medium for "Beowulf." In "Alice," the Knave of Hearts is put on trial for stealing the Queen of Hearts' tarts and is defended by Alice.

20th Century Fox Changes Release Schedule
20th Century Fox has set a Christmas Day 2009 release date for Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel . It will face Disney's new animated The Princess and the Frog on that day. Fox announced a number of changes to its calendar on Thursday, including pushing back The A-Team , which doesn't have a cast or director, by a year, from June 12, 2009 to June 11, 2010. John Singleton, who had been attached to direct "A-Team," has left the project after the studio said it wanted more time to develop the script, which has already gone through a number of rewrites. Fox also has decided to relocate Dwayne Johnson's Tooth Fairy from June 2009 to November 13. In exchange, Fox is moving two youth-oriented comedies out of the first quarter of 2009 and into the summer season: Chris Columbus' I Love You Beth Cooper , starring Hayden Panettiere, and comedy-adventure They Came From Upstairs . "Beth Cooper" opens July 10, instead of March 27, while "Upstairs" opens July 31, instead of Feb. 13. In addition to "A-Team," Fox moved Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief , directed by Columbus, out of 2009. The film will now be released July 2, 2010. Fox also dated Ramona for release on July 2, 2010.

The Underworld: Rise of the Lycans Trailer Hits!
Apple has debuted the new trailer for Screen Gems' Underworld: Rise of the Lycans , hitting theaters on January 23rd. Directed by Patrick Tatopoulos from a script by Danny McBride, the third installment stars Michael Sheen, Bill Nighy, Rhona Mitra and Kevin Grevioux. The prequel story traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires known as Death Dealers and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian (Sheen) emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Producer Gail Anne Hurd told MTV that Edward Norton's not done going green. "It's all going to depend on the screenplay and where his character goes in any sequel, because he does have a multiple-picture deal," she said. "[Norton's situation] is the same with every franchise like this, when you have one of the top actors of his generation." So he's got some time off? "Next, he's likely to appear in an 'Avengers' movie, but that's completely up to Marvel," she said. "It's wonderful that Marvel now controls so many of their own characters, and they can create a Marvel universe in film and populate it with so many of their characters who naturally exist together. I think an 'Avengers' film is a very exciting prospect."

Stone Temple Pilots front-man Scott Weiland appears to be uncertain of the future of the band. Weiland and drummer Eric Kretz are still signed to Atlantic Records and owe the label three more albums. Guitarist Dean DeLeo and bassist Robert DeLeo are no longer signed to Atlantic. Weiland told The Pulse of Radio, “ I don't know where things are gonna go with STP. It was sad to find out that we're still in some way locked in a contract with Atlantic Records, which is a travesty, actually. If it ends up being that we have to, you know, make a certain amount of records for Atlantic in order to be free, then I don't know if I have that in me. “

Soft drink manufacturer Dr Pepper, which this past spring offered to send a free can of the beverage to "everyone in America" (excluding ex-GN'R members Slash and Buckethead) if GUNS N' ROSES' new album, "Chinese Democracy", were to arrive anytime during the calendar year 2008, has revealed details of the plan."We never thought this day would come," says Dr Pepper VP of marketing Tony Jacobs. "But now that it's here all we can say is: The Dr Pepper's on us."According to Billboard.com, interested fans are being asked to visit DrPepper.com on November 23, the day "Chinese Democracy" is released in the U.S. exclusively via Best Buy. Ben Stiller in Talks to Direct Chicago
The Hollywood Reporter says that Ben Stiller is in early talks to direct The Trial of the Chicago 7 , the DreamWorks project about the 1968 riots at the Democratic convention and their aftermath. A "Chicago" gig would mark a departure for Stiller, who has directed such successful comedies as Tropic Thunder and Zoolander , but has not helmed a serious political picture of this kind before. Stiller follows several other notables who have been associated with directing the Amblin-MacDonald/Parkes project, including Paul Greengrass, who was a candidate during the summer, and even Steven Spielberg, who at one time was considering helming the picture. Under terms of the DreamWorks/Paramount separation agreement, DreamWorks has taken over development of the project. The company wants to put the film into production quickly.

Sobini Films' Mark Amin is making an English-language version of Korean-Japanese melodrama A Moment to Remember at CBS Films, reports Variety . Sobini has a first-look deal with Lionsgate, where Amin is chairman and a major investor. CBS Films stepped in after Lionsgate turned down the pic.
The screenplay, which revolves around learning to live with Alzheimer's disease, is to be written by Erin Brockovich scribe Susannah Grant.

Kutcher and Luketic Take on Five Killers
upu Lionsgate has set Ashton Kutcher to star in and Robert Luketic to direct Five Killers , an action comedy that will begin production early next year, reports Variety . Kutcher will play a former hitman whose life is turned upside down because someone from his past has paid a group of killers to bump him off. Lionsgate acquired the project as a spec script by Bob DeRosa, and Ted Griffin is doing a rewrite.
Scott Aversano is producing along with Kutcher and his Katalyst Productions partner Jason Goldberg. Michael Paseornek and John Sacchi will executive produce.

Police redoubled their efforts Wednesday in the search for a boy who went missing nine days ago, calling in a helicopter to comb the area around Barrie, Ont., while a computer team scoured cyberspace for clues. Brandon Crisp, 15, has been missing since Thanksgiving Day, when he left home after an argument with his parents about not being allowed to play his computer games. "Every day gets more and more concerning for his safety," said Sgt. Dave Goodbrand with the Barrie police. "Especially with no contact. We're not getting any contact from his (computer) user accounts and his video game ccounts. And that's concerning because he was so addicted and he left home because of that." Brandon Crisp, 15, left his Ontario home after having an argument with his parents over his video game habits on Oct. 13, Thanksgiving Monday. He hasn't been seen since. Police and Brandon's parents believe an addiction to video games may be a factor in the teen's disappearance. His parents think he may have run away from home after they took away his video games. Steve and Angelika Crisp say that, for the past three years, their son has been obsessed with playing an online game called Call of Duty 4, often until 4 a.m. No witnesses have come forward to say they have seen him and investigators say Brandon has not logged in to the game since his disappearance. Friends have told officers they have had no contact with him. Police say it's unlikely Brandon would log in to the game under a new moniker. "From my understanding he has worked so hard to build his credibility and if you start a new profile you have to start at the bottom and work your way up again."A police team skilled in computers is "chasing every possible angle," said Goodbrand, who added that Microsoft is also helping with the investigation. Goodbrand said there are many angry gamers around the world who are blogging about their opposition to the fact that the police and family are blaming the boy's disappearance on a video game addiction. "Unfortunately those gamers are just going to have to suck it up and live with that because that is why he left home because he was overly addicted to this game," he said. "And I will stand firm on this point and so will his parents." A Facebook page dedicated to finding the boy, called "Where is Brandon Crisp?" had more than 5,500 members as of Wednesday, including one claiming to be the boy - a claim that police now say they will investigate. "It could be just a hoax from one of these disgruntled gamers but we are definitely going to look into this now," said Goodbrand. As crews searched the air and ground Wednesday, Brandon's parents made a television plea for his safe return. "Our fear is he's inside somewhere but he doesn't have access to all of this media information or he's been suppressed," Steve Crisp told Global News. "If he knew we were out there and worried for the family, he would have called." Brandon, who has two sisters - one them his twin - is described as a shy, introverted boy who used to love sports before he became "obsessed" with playing the game. Police say it's out of character for him to vanish without calling home. He left his home on a yellow mountain bike on Oct. 13 after getting into a fight with his parents when they removed his video game console, Xbox 360. Since then, his bicycle has been found abandoned on the side of a hiking trail, about 20 kilometres from his home, but there has been no sign of Brandon. In light of snowfall on Tuesday, the boy was not properly dressed when he left. He does not have any money. The search effort Tuesday involved more than 25 police officers and search dogs from the Barrie police and the Ontario Provincial Police. Brandon is described as being five feet three inches tall and weighing about 100 pounds. He was last seen wearing a yellow and grey jacket with a grey American Eagle hoody-style sweater and blue jeans. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing white "skater"-style running shoes with a camouflage stripe on the side and carrying a yellow and grey backpack. Barrie is about 100 kilometres north of Toronto.

The Devil Wears Prada 's latest effort " Plagues " will be reissued as a CD/DVD package on October 28th through Rise . A new album is expected to follow through Ferret Music next year.

Spylacopa ( Candiria , The Dillinger Escape Plan , Isis , etc.) have made their new track " Haunting A Ghost " available online here . Manson told Bloody-Disgusting.com that he is "pretty much finished" with his next album that he wrote solely with Ramirez , who reunited with Marilyn back in January. Guitarist Wes Borland ( BLACK LIGHT BURNS , LIMP BIZKIT ), who joined Marilyn Manson in August, will "just be touring with the band." According to the singer, the sound of the new album "will be more like [1996's] 'Antichrist Superstar' ." The CD is not expected to drop until early 2009.

Now Sarah must try and stop this ultimate evil before the entire campus falls prey. The film is getting a January 20th DVD release next year and extras will include deleted scenes and a few featurettes.

Fickman, Twisted Remaking Four RKO Horror Pics
Andy Fickman has made a deal with Roseblood Movie Company and Twisted Pictures to godfather four remakes from RKO's horror heyday, including three that were produced by horrormeister Val Lewton, says Variety . Fickman will direct at least one of the films. Roseblood is the horror/thriller division of RKO Pictures, and Twisted is the horror division of Evolution Entertainment , financiers and producers of the "Saw" series. The companies will co-finance the films. The remake properties are the Jacques Tourneur-directed I Walked With a Zombie (1943); the Robert Wise-directed Bela Lugosi-Boris Karloff starrer The Body Snatcher (1945); the Mark Robson-directed Karloff starrer Bedlam (1946); and the John Farrow-directed Lucille Ball-John Carradine starrer Five Came Back (1939). RKO chairman Ted Hartley is producing the remakes with Twisted's Mark Burg, Oren Koules and Carl Mazzocone. Jonathan Marshall is executive producer.

Universal Studios has confirmed a rumor from IESB that Universal Parks & Resorts has paired up with Hasbro and DreamWorks Pictures to produce a "Transformers" attraction at its parks in Hollywood and Singapore set to open in early 2011.

"He states that Soundwave is not a pick up truck, although he doesn't rule out Soundwave being a truck of some kind. Not so fast, according to quotes from producer Chuck Roven and Gary Oldman at Sci Fi Wire . "We are excited about the possibility of something coming together, but we're definitely in the stage where we're just thinking about it," Roven said. "[Director] Chris [Nolan] is really the one who is thinking on it." Oldman said, "I haven't heard a thing [about a third movie]. I've heard the stuff being thrown around online, but nothing from official sources."

Actress Elizabeth Banks is taking her first shot at producing the graphic novel adaptation, and she's quoted at Sci Fi Wire about it. "I don't want to be perceived as an actress with vanity projects," Banks said. "I really want to be perceived as a legitimate producer, and I think one of the best ways to do that is to not act in the movies you're producing."

Sony delays videogame over offensive music
Sony Corp has delayed sales of "LittleBigPlanet," one of its most widely anticipated videogames, by at least one week in the United States after finding potentially offensive background music in the game. The puzzle-solving, community-based game, published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 3, will begin shipping to retail shops during the week of October 27, Sony said on Monday. The company will replace the shipped version of the game, originally set for release on October 21, with newly mastered copies. Sony declined to disclose the costs associated with the move, a representative said. The music in question is "Tapha Niang" a song performed by Malian musician Toumani Diabate, Sony said. "One of the background music tracks that was licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur'an," the company said in a statement. "We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologize for any offense this may have caused." Sony, whose PlayStation 3 game console is locked in a battle with Microsoft Corp's Xbox 360 and Nintendo Co Ltd's Wii, has been touting the game since early in 2007. LittleBigPlanet lets users create virtual worlds and they can play and share what they build with other worldwide users.

Fourth Bourne Moving Ahead with Nolfi Penning
Universal is moving ahead with its fourth installment of "The Bourne Identity" franchise, setting George Nolfi to write the script, reports Variety . Nolfi was co-writer of the third film, which was based on a story by Tony Gilroy. Though the series is based on the Robert Ludlum novels, the new film won't be based on a Ludlum title, but rather an original story.Director Paul Greengrass and star Matt Damon are attached to the new film. The film will be produced by Frank Marshall and executive produced by Jeffrey Weiner and Henry Morrison.

Terrence Howard Speaks Out on Rhodey Recast
Actor Terrence Howard appeared in the NPR studio to talk about his debut album "Shine Through It" with Scott Simon for the Weekend Edition. Of course, Simon had to ask him about the recent news that Don Cheadle would be replacing him as James "Rhodey" Rhodes in the upcoming Marvel Studios sequel Iron Man 2 . That news (which has yet to be confirmed by Marvel Studios, who remains as mum as usual) took many fans of the summer's blockbuster hit by surprise since Howard played a large role in many fans' love for the movie, and just as many were excited to see Howard step into the iron suit of War Machine. After the announcement a few days ago, speculation ran rampant about why Howard wouldn't return, but on Simon's radio show, Howard said that he found out about the news the same way the rest of us did."It was the surprise of a lifetime," he said. "There was no explanation. [The contract] just...up and vanished. I read something in the trades implicating that it was about money or something, but apparently the contracts that we write and sign aren't worth the paper that they're printed on, sometimes. Promises aren't kept, and good faith negotiations aren't always held up."

Motley Crue and Guitar Center have announced the finalists for their “Make Rock History” contest, where one band will win an opening spot on the Crue's 2009 US tour, $25,000 cash, $20,000 worth of gear from Gibson, a recording contract with Eleven Seven Music, and a management deal from 10th Street Entertainment.The bands will be flown to L.A. next week to perform live, where the field will be narrowed to six bands that will play a set for Motley Crue in person in November. Warner Bros. Sets Sherlock Holmes Date
Warner Bros. Pictures has set a November 20, 2009 release date for the Guy Ritchie-directed Sherlock Holmes , starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, Mark Strong and Kelly Reilly. In the thriller, Downey Jr. brings the legendary detective to life as he has never been portrayed before. Jude Law stars as Holmes' trusted colleague, Watson, a doctor and war veteran who is a formidable ally for Sherlock Holmes. Rachel McAdams stars as Irene Adler, the only woman ever to have bested Holmes and who has maintained a tempestuous relationship with the detective. Mark Strong stars as their mysterious new adversary, Blackwood. Kelly Reilly will play Watson's love interest, Mary. The only other movie scheduled for that week before Thanksgiving next year is Sony's animated sci-fi tale Planet 51 , voiced by Dwayne Johnson, Jessica Biel, Justin Long, Seann William Scott, Gary Oldman and John Cleese.

Kevin Smith to Direct Outer Space Comedy
Writer/director Kevin Smith is developing a futuristic outer space comedy, says The Hollywood Reporter . The film will reference other sci-fi movies and revolves around a father-son relationship. The indie-minded Smith is aiming for a budget in the $45 million-$50 million range, which would be his biggest. He again will produce with partner Scott Mosier via their View Askew banner. Harvey and Bob Weinstein, with whom Smith has collaborated on most of his movies, could reteam with Smith on the film. Insiders said that TWC execs have read part of the script and are interested in making the movie. Smith has finished a first draft of the script, but the project will not move forward until after his next project, Red State .

Thirst
Follows a beloved and devoted priest from a small town volunteers for a medical experiment which fails and turns him into a vampire . Physical and psychological changes lead to his affair with a wife of his childhood friend who is repressed and tired of her mundane life. The one-time priest falls deeper in despair and depravity. As things turns for worse, he struggles to maintain what's left of his humanity. It seems that Universal Pictures and Focus Features are so confident in director Chan-wook Park that they are even throwing some change at the production, making themselves the first US studios to back a South Korean film before it's local release. Both studios will co-produce, while Focus hopes to release it to festivals in mid '09.

He-Man Loses the Power of Grayskull
Latino Review reports that He-Man and the Masters of the Universe , which has a script by Justin Marks, is dead at Warner Bros. Pictures in its current state. We quote:
The studio gave the execs at Silver Pictures a very small list of A-director names they would consider making the film with, amongst them Doug Liman and Bryan Singer who both passed. There were some up and coming directors that were gung ho on the script, but the studio wasn't feeling them. Another reason and perhaps the biggest was that Navid McIIhargey, the exec who brought in He-Man to Silver Pictures, left the company last month to become a Senior VP at New Regency as reported last month in both trades. Sources tell me Navid and another exec (who also left Silver) – guys in their thirties who grew up on the property - were the unsung heroes of He-Man and are no longer there doing the day to day to get He-Man over the mountain and get the movie made.

SPIDER-MAN 4
Director Sam Raimi told MTV some things about what's ahead. "I'm really excited about 'Spider-Man,' and I'm hoping to direct it," he cautioned. "I don't have a script yet, but production would start probably by March of 2010, I'm guessing. It sounds like a long time away, but we need a script first, and a lot of pre-production has to take place."

A 2009 release date is being touted for the Metallica -themed installment of the game franchise, which is expected to focus on choice selections from the bands entire discography. Flyleaf will begin work on their sophomore effort in the coming months with producer Howard Benson (Seether, Saosin).

Scott Weiland has postponed his previously scheduled 2008 dates. The tour in support of his new solo album ‘ Happy in Galoshes ‘, due out on November 25th, will instead launch on January 14th, 2009.

Saosin have streamed three new songs “Why Can't You See” , “Keep Secrets” , and “Love Maker” . The tracks are taken from the band's new EP titled ‘ The Grey ‘. The EP is currently on sale exclusively on the band's tour with only 100 copies per show. The album is expected to be sold on hurley.com soon.

The Drama Club has been signed by F.O.F. Label Group/EMI. The band will release a self-titled EP on November 11th, and expect to followup with a full album release in 2009. The band had signed to One Eleven/Warner Bros. Records, but that deal apparently no longer exists.

Shadows Fall have been dropped by their European record label, Roadrunner Records. The bands future with their U.S. label, Atlantic Records, is also in question.

Franz Ferdinand have set a January 27th release date for their upcoming new album ‘ Tonight ‘.

Some four years after the release of his last full studio album, 2004's Encore, Eminem confirmed Wednesday night that his new LP will be called Relapse and will be out before the end of the year. Em made the announcement during a launch party for his new autobiography, "The Way I Am," and previewed a track from the effort, titled "I'm Having a Relapse," which kicks off with the familiar lyric "Guess whose back?," before he launches into his trademark flow.

The Haunting in Connecticut
The story follows a family who are forced to relocate near a clinic where their teenage son was being treated for cancer. The family begins experiencing violent, supernatural events that the parents first blame on stress from the illness, but they later discover that their new home is a former mortuary with a dark past. The film is set for a 2009 release.

Paramount Pictures Reduces Yearly Releases to 20
Paramount Pictures made the official announcement today that it is reducing its yearly output of movies:Paramount Pictures said today it has reduced its release target to twenty films annually to more effectively compete in the changing marketplace and to realize the maximum financial benefit of the series of new operating efficiencies achieved by the studio. Under the new targets, Paramount plans to release twelve films, including MTV Films and Nickelodeon Movies, and up to four additional releases from its Paramount Vantage unit. Paramount will also continue to distribute 2-4 films a year produced by DreamWorks Animation and Marvel Studios. The new release strategy complements proactive efficiency efforts announced earlier in the year. In June, Paramount restructured the Vantage operation to combine its marketing, distribution and physical production departments with Paramount's, which eliminated redundancies and resulted in overhead savings. Moving forward, Vantage's new creative strategy will be to release up to four lower priced, cutting edge films a year. The recently announced departure of the DreamWorks principals and many of its staff enables Paramount to further integrate creative operations to maximize its top talent. Adam Goodman will be moving from DreamWorks to Paramount Pictures as President of Production, overseeing a creative staff who will manage the current DreamWorks projects and creative relationships, as well as new development now for Paramount. Brad Weston will continue as President of Production for Paramount Pictures, and will continue to supervise existing creative staff overseeing their ongoing development, talent relationships and new development. Wii Music is Coming!
In a world that seems happy with "Rock Band" and "Guitar Hero," Nintendo is finally releasing its own major music game next week, "Wii Music." This week, Nintendo let four members of the MTV News team try the game to find out how it's similar and how it's different from those wildly successful music games. How is it the same? Almost not at all. "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band" use controllers shaped like guitars and drums. "Wii Music" lets users choose from more than 60 instruments from harp and guitar to galactic piano and "dog suit" which they pretend to play by shaking the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers. All three games allow you to play along to famous songs. But with "Wii Music," it's improvisation that's emphasized. In the better-known music games, players follow a set note pattern, pressing buttons or hitting color-coded drums to keep a popular rock song playing out of their TV speakers. Improvisation is limited to the moments when players hit the whammy bar or rattle out a drum fill. For "Wii Music," there is no pattern to follow. The developers of the game have programmed the songs to sound somewhat correct no matter how the player uses the controller. Playing in proper time causes the proper notes to come out, and swinging the Wii controllers in between those notes causes extra notes to play, theoretically without harming the melody of the song. A good player of "Wii Music" winds up creating their own version of a song, like a rock star adding their own twist to a cover.

TESLA 's new album, "Forever More" , sold more than 16,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 33 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was released on October 7 on Tesla Electric Company Recordings . The European version of the album, which will be made available on November 7 via Frontiers Records , will contain two bonus tracks not found on the American version.

UK's MarketingWeek.co.uk reports that GUNS N' ROSES is seeking an advertising agency to promote its long-awaited next album in a major break from music industry tradition. Sources suggest that Universal Music has already contacted several London advertising hotshops to launch a marketing communications program ahead of the global release of "Chinese Democracy" on November 25. The move is the latest in a string of new initiatives by the music industry to encourage people to continue buying music, particularly albums, rather than illegally downloading or just buying singles for 79p. Adrien Brody and Michael Chiklis have joined the cast of indie comedy High School , produced by Parallel Media's genre arm Parallel Zide, says Variety . Production will start Nov. 8 in Detroit. John Stalberg Jr. is directing from the screenplay he wrote with Stephen Susco ( The Grudge ). The story is centered on a high school valedictorian who gets high with the school stoner and faces a drug test, then decides to get the entire school stoned so he can beat the test by making everyone fail. Brody will portray a drug dealer and Chiklis will play the school principal.

Obama Campaign buys space for ads in video games
Among the various other firsts that have marked the 2008 elections, Democrat Barack Obama has become the first presidential candidate to buy ad space inside a video game. According to Obama campaign officials, the video game ads target 10 states, including some battleground ones, that allow early voting - Ohio, Iowa, Indiana, Montana, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Nevada, New Mexico, Florida, and Colorado. Roadside billboards and other signage have the Illinois senator's familiar face on them, and the message “Early Voting Has Begun. VoteForChange.com.” Though the campaign is tight-lipped about the cost involved in launching the ad blitz on gamers, it revealed that eighteen video games - including the extremely popular ‘Guitar Hero' and ‘Madden 09', will feature in-game ads in the final weeks before the election. The timing of the ads within the video game varies from state to state. While players in smaller states may see them for almost a month, users in bigger states may see them for a shorter period. Obama spokesman, Nick Shapiro, said: “These ads will help us expand the reach of ‘VoteforChange.com', so that more people can use this easy tool to find their early vote location and make sure their voice is heard.” Game maker Electronic Arts (EA), which is featuring the Obama ads in nine of its games, confirmed Monday that the ads were the real deal. They are aimed primarily at game players who like sports, including NASCAR, NBA, NHL and skateboarding. It appears the EA Sports' motto, “It's in the game”, now literally applies to presidential politics as well. According to Holly Rockwood, a spokeswoman for EA, the idea of embedding advertising temporarily inside a video game is relatively new, having only begun about 18 months ago, and Obama is the first presidential candidate to buy space. She said Obama's ads do not reflect the political policies of EA or the opinions of its development teams, and added that these ads reach “an audience that is typically hard to reach - young males, roughly 18 to 34.”

Gidget Gein , aka Brad Stewart , original bassist for Marilyn Manson , and the pre-Manson outfit called Spooky Kids , has died of a drug overdose.  The 39-yr old  Stewart was found in his Burbank, CA home on Thursday.  He was dismissed from Marilyn Manson's band for his drug use, and went on to do various gigs, finally landing in LA, where he began work as an artist,  musician and writer.  He had three projects in the works, including a new band, an art exhibit and a book. Stewart was said to have been in and out of rehab several times.

The Smashing Pumpkins currently have the number one most added song at Modern Rock Radio with their independently released single “G.L.O.W.”. The track has received 94 adds in just two weeks. The Pumpkins are preparing to launch their North American “20th Anniversary Tour” on Halloween.

The obvious sequel to Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer . No official plot yet, but it's said that Jack will be forced to partner up with someone. Writer/director Jon Knautz is currently working on the script with hopes to begin filming sometime in Summer '09. This sequel will be "funnier and scarier." It's said that Jack will be forced to "team up" with someone in this installment.

STEVE VAI Co-Produces HANK GARLAND Movie 'Crazy'; First Screenings Announced
Legendary guitarist Steve Vai has co-produced "Crazy" , a film depicting the life of guitar legend Hank Garland , which will begin screening in theatres in Nashville and Memphis, Tennessee this Friday, October 17. The film was directed by Rick Bieber and and stars Waylon Payne ( "Walk The Line" ) and Ali Larter ( "Heroes" ). Steve makes a cameo appearance as Hank Williams , and Tony MacAlpine makes a cameo as Wes Montgomery .

Mel Gibson Passes on Lethal Weapon 5 ?
The Los Angeles Times spoke to 78-year-old Richard Donner, director and producer of all four "Lethal Weapon" movies, about the proposed Lethal Weapon 5 . While Donner isn't involved with the movie, earlier this year it was reported that screenwriter Shane Black and producer Joel Silver were working on a fifth installment of the franchise. Then, last week, actor Columbus Short revealed that he is in talks to play Murtaugh's (Danny Glover) son in the film. Here are a few of Donner's quotes:
"Mel turned it down," Donner said. "I would like to think that Mel turned it down because I wasn't involved. Knowing Mel, I would like to think that. Would that be the kind of thing he does? It sure would be." "It's too bad, actually, because Channing Gibson, who wrote the fourth one, and Mike Riva, a designer on three of them, and myself and Derek [Hoffman, an associate at The Donner Company] had an incredibly strong story for the fifth movie. But we weren't given the opportunity and I think maybe I could have convinced Mel to do it. But Warners chose to go with Joel Silver." "Yes, the project is pretty much dead in the water unless someone had the sense to come to me."

Manson to play Christ
Marilyn Manson has been offered a role to play the holy savior himself, Jesus Christ, in an upcoming film entitled Diamond Dead. Diamond Dead is a dark comedy about a rock band that makes a deal with the devil and - according to an excerpt of the script posted online - in the film, Jesus smokes pot. Diamond Dead will be directed by George Romero, who also did Night of the Living Dead, and music was written by Richard Hartley, who composed for The Rocky Horror Picture Show. "The idea of Marilyn Manson in the role of Jesus Christ is getting all sorts of reactions," according to the Diamond Dead web site. "Someone emailed me saying that it's a horrible and anti-Christian idea, but nevertheless they are praying for us." Manson and Romero are believed to still be in talking phases at this point in time. Cheadle is Replacing Howard in Iron Man 2
Don Cheadle is stepping in to replace Terrence Howard in Marvel Studios' Iron Man 2 , says The Hollywood Reporter . In the first film, Howard played Col. James 'Rhodey' Rhodes, Tony Stark/Iron Man's best friend and future armor-clad hero War Machine. The trade says Marvel had no comment, but sources close to the deal said negotiations with Howard fell through over financial differences, among other reasons. Marvel, which had wanted to work with Cheadle, then decided to take the role in another direction and approached the actor, who is shooting Antoine Fuqua's Brooklyn's Finest . Justin Theroux is writing the screenplay for Iron Man 2 , coming to theaters on May 7, 2010. Jon Favreau is returning as director, and Robert Downey Jr. is expected back as Stark/Iron Man. Gwyneth Paltrow also is expected to be back as Pepper Potts.

Actress Brea Grant talked to Access Hollywood about the experience being the speedster.  "I'm truly a geek!" she said. "I read a lot of comic books and this was a really good excuse because I felt like reading comic books was research for 'Heroes.' I like the sci-fi genre, I liked 'Heroes' [before I was on it]. I love stuff like 'Battlestar Galactica' and those kind of nerdy shows."

A new book based on late ALICE IN CHAINS singer Layne Staley 's last five years of reclusive life in downtown Seattle is scheduled for release on April 5, 2009. Entitled "Itch, Love Stories about Heroin" , the book "will reveal some secrets about the singer, as well as offer an inside look at his addiction and struggles with heroin," according to a press release.

Original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley and RUSH 's Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee will appear on "That Metal Show" , VH1 Classic 's new half-hour series hosted by Eddie Trunk and comedians Jim Florentine ( "The Howard Stern Show" , "Crank Yankers" , "Meet The Creeps" ) and Don Jamieson ( "Inside The NFL" , "Dice Undisputed" , "Meet The Creeps" ). According to a press release, "That Metal Show" is a thirty-minute roundtable talk show where legends of rock hang out and discuss their past and current projects, all the while interacting with the metal maniacs that make up our studio audience. Some describe the series as "Headbanger's Ball" meets "The Man Show" , although the people behind the program like to say "That Metal Show" is the only on-air destination for the greatest genre of music ever created.

Roadrunner are preparing to release a live double DVD set for their " Roadrunner United " concert that took place in New York City back in December of 2005. The show took place to celebrate the labels 25th anniversary and saw numerous members of its roster, both past and present, teaming up to perform each others songs together, including members of Slipknot , Machine Head , Killswitch Engage , Trivium , Chimaira , Fear Factory , Biohazard , Vision Of Disorder and many more. Seth Rogen Producing Cancer Comedy?
Mandate Pictures has picked up I'm With Cancer, a comedic autobiographical spec script written by Will Reiser that Seth Rogen will produce with his writing-producing partner Evan Goldberg and Ben Karlin ("The Daily Show With Jon Stewart").Rogen also will have a supporting role in the film."Cancer" is Reiser's account of his struggle to beat cancer, with the story centering on a 25-year-old who finds out he has the disease.The film reteams Rogen and Goldberg with Mandate, for whom they are writing and producing the end-of-the-world comedy Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypse. The duo are working on Sony's The Green Hornet.

Bayona to Direct Universal's Hater
Universal has hired The Orphanage helmer Juan Antonio Bayona to direct Hater , the Glen Mazzara-scripted adaptation of British author David Moody's thriller novel about an epidemic of violence perpetrated by ordinary people. Bayona, who will make his English-language debut with Hater , reunites with Guillermo del Toro, who is producing the film with Mark Johnson. Del Toro produced The Orphanage , which was made in Bayona's home country of Spain on a modest budget and grossed more than $76 million worldwide. The film is set in the U.S., and while exteriors will be shot locally when the film gets under way next year, Johnson hopes to shoot the interiors in Spain.

But what if what if your musical dream involves turntables and a mic? Word recently leaked that "Guitar Hero" maker Activision is working on a project called "DJ Hero." On Wednesday, music entrepreneur Quincy Jones III told MTV News about a similar project, "Scratch: The Ultimate DJ," which is set to come out in 2009.

New 'Halo 3' Spin-Off Game With New Lead Character Announced In Tokyo
'Halo 3: Recon' due in the fall of 2009. Microsoft chose the decidedly non-"Halo"-crazy nation of Japan as the spot from which to announce the next major "Halo" game on Thursday (October 9). As part of a presentation at the Tokyo Game Show, the Xbox 360 manufacturer revealed that "Halo 3: Recon" is coming in the fall of 2009. The new "Halo" game is being described in Microsoft press materials as a stand-alone expansion of "Halo 3." It is being developed by Bungie Studios, the creative team behind the first three "Halo," confirming news broken by MTV News this summer that Bungie had another project related to the series in the works. "Halo 3: Recon" will not star longtime series hero Master Chief. Instead, it puts players in the boots of an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper during events leading up to "Halo 3." A Microsoft press release indicated that "Recon" will include "hours of new campaign excursions and multiplayer gameplay." The release further indicates that the game will be set on Earth and that "[while] the feel of this new chapter greatly resembles that of previous 'Halo' experiences, 'Halo 3: Recon' will require you to employ more elements of stealth and cunning than ever before." The "Recon" expansion will also include new multiplayer maps and added items for the Forge multiplayer level-creation tool in "Halo 3." The announcement of "Halo 3: Recon" adds a third Xbox 360 title to the pending "Halo" release calendar. An experimental "Halo"-based game overseen by filmmaker Peter Jackson was announced in September 2006. Jackson had promised then to make something that wouldn't be classified purely as a game but rather as "interactive entertainments that are not for the hard-core crowd." Microsoft is also planning to release "Halo: Wars," a real-time strategy game that allows players to control large squads of forces from various sides of the "Halo" conflict in large-scale battles in early 2009.

Big Vin Records , the label headed by Vinnie Paul of Pantera / Hellyeah fame, will be releasing a new Dimebag Darrell paperback photo book/DVD set entitled " He Came To Rock " on November 18th. The book will feature over 400 pictures of Dimebag along with a biography of his life written by authors Susan Doll and David Morrow ( Elvis - " Forever In The Groove ", Marilyn Monroe: Her Life And Legend ".) Tributes from the likes of Slayer 's Kerry King , Scott Ian of Anthrax , Zakk Wylde of Black Label Society and many more will also round out the book. Metallica is set to perform on Los Premios MTV Latin America 2008 on October 16th. This will mak the band's first North American TV appearance of the year.

The All-American Rejects have delayed the release of their new album ‘ When the World Comes Down ‘. The effort is now set to hit stores on December 16th.

Saliva have changed the title of their upcoming studio album to ‘ Cinqo Diablo ‘. The album will be in stores on December 16th while the first single, “Family Reunion”, impacts radio on October 28th. A tour with Drowning Pool , Tantric and Jet Black Stare will kick off on October 17th .

Cold will kick off a six week reunion tour in late February 2009, dates will be announced in the coming weeks. A new studio album is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2009. The Killer and the Star , the side-project of Cold front-man Scooter Ward, will provide support on the tour and will be releasing their debut album ‘ Living with Musicians ‘ early next year.

Resident Evil: Degeneration

Tupac Producer Johnny 'J' Jackson Dead At 39 Hitmaker apparently jumped to his death in Los Angeles County Jail. Friends and family of producer Johnny "J" Jackson are simply stunned that he died at age 39 over the weekend. According to a source close to J and his family, he was serving a sentence in Los Angeles County Jail for DWI. The source confirmed reports that he died after apparently jumping to his death off an upper level at the jail.

Green Day have begun work on a new studio album with producer Butch Vig (Jimmy Eat World, AFI). A 2009 release is expected.

Filter will release ‘ The Remixes For The Damned ‘ to digital outlets on November 4th.

Adelitas Way have signed on with Virgin Records for the release of their debut album. No word on an expected release date.

Ra announced in a blog that a good quality version of their album ‘Black Sun' is now available via iTunes. The previous version was of poor quality, and, according to the band, iTunes has refused to offer re-downloads to users who downloaded the inferior version. The band is currently trying to find a way to “make it up” to those who purchased it previously.

Scars On Broadway frontman/guitarist Daron Malakian has further elaborated on his decision to cancel the bands upcoming touring and promotional commitments, here's what he had to say:
"I've read many of your postings and I owe it to all of you to respond:
I understand all of your frustration and anger, and I never meant to let any of you down. Your support for Scars has been so important to me and the band. I would never cancel a tour unless I had real reasons and personal things that require my undivided attention. Columbus Short in Talks for Lethal Weapon 5
In August of this year, it was reported that screenwriter Shane Black and producer Joel Silver were working on a fifth installment of the "Lethal Weapon" franchise. It was said that in the new film, homicidal Riggs (Mel Gibson) is about to retire, but pulls Murtaugh (Danny Glover) out of retirement to solve one final case, before they both officially head off into the sunset.
Today, IGN spoke to actor Columbus Short who revealed that he is in talks to play Murtaugh's son in the film.

Marvel to Film Next Four Films at Raleigh Studios

2009 is the Year for Dracula: The Un-Dead
ShockTillYouDrop.com reports that Bram Stoker's great-grandnephew Dacre Stoker and award-winning "Dracula" documentarian and historian Ian Holt have sold North American-English publishing rights of the Stoker-family-authorized sequel to Bram's classic novel "Dracula" to an alliance of Dutton U.S. (Brian Tart), Harper U.K. (Jane Johnson) and Penguin-Canada (Laura Shin). AEI's Ken Atchity, Chi-Li Wong, and Michael T. Kuciak will produce the film adaptation with Blue Tulip's Jan de Bont, and are expecting to see it go before the cameras in June '09.

Night of the Demons
Angela Feld is throwing the Halloween party to end all Halloween parties at the infamous Broussard Mansion in New Orleans, where dark events transpired almost a century ago. But when the packed party gets busted by the police, Angela and her friends Maddie, Lily, Suzanne, Colin, Dex and Jason are the only ones left behind. Soon Colin and Angela make a grisly discovery in the basement and inexplicable events start to take place. With the mansion gates mysteriously locked, the seven find themselves trapped for the night...and soon they're fighting ancient demons for their very souls. Delayed almost a month, the project is back on track with filming starting today in New Orleans. Edward Furlong ( Terminator 2: Judgement Day , Pet Cemetery 2 ) is the latest addition to the cast. Night of the Demons Remake is set for release in 2009.

Actor Matthew Goode spoke to the BBC about playing the world's smartest man. "I have some classic outfits. I look like David Bowie half the time with a big blonde wig and I have a supersuit -- Batman-esque with all the muscles and it's deeply uncomfortable to wear, but hilarious fun," Goode said. "There's not so much research you can do because it's set in this alternative reality, but it's so dense and it's the graphic novel of all graphic novels, so you've just got constantly keep going back to the novel itself."

DAREDEVIL
IESB talked to Fox head honcho Tom Rothman about an Affleck-less return to the big screen for Matt Murdock. "A 'Daredevil,' to use your words, reboot, is something we are thinking very seriously about," Rothman said. "We've got all the rights. And yes, I think that the thing the 'Hulk' showed although, it did what it did, is that it is possible, that if you really do it right the audience will give you a second chance. That it is possible. And I think that you see that when they did 'Batman Begins,' the first Nolan movie, that you can have made some mistakes along the way or movies that the audience wasn't that crazy about and then given the proper amount of time and the right creative vision behind it, you can, to use your word, reboot ... it needs a visionary at the level that Chris Nolan was. It needs someone, it needs a director, honestly, who has a genuine vision. What we wouldn't do is just do it for the sake of doing it. Right? What we try to do is to get a creative engine for it, that really had a great vision for it, that's what we would look for."

Apple Defeats Royalty Hike, So iTunes Store Remains Open
Rates would have been raised from 9 cents to 15 cents on songs purchased through the music store. Like the biblical Adam before it, the National Music Publishers Association had to learn the hard way Thursday (October 2) a lesson any schoolchild could have told them for free: Don't ever try to take a second bite of the Apple. Bowing to mounting pressure from the multimedia giant, the Washington, D.C.-based Copyright Royalty Board declined a request from the aforementioned NMPA to increase song royalties from 9 cents to 15 cents on songs purchased through iTunes and other digital retailers, according to CNN.com . The decision was the board's first on digital downloads and will set royalty rates for the next five years. Calling the 66 percent increase into their already-slim profit margins a surefire road toward negative cash flow, Apple earlier threatened to close its music store should the proposal get approved.

"This Present Wasteland" , the new album from veteran Seattle metallers METAL CHURCH , sold 920 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan .

Chimaira have finished writing thirteen new songs for their upcoming album and will begin pre-production on the effort with producer Ben Schigel ( Chimaira , Walls Of Jericho ) on October 17th. An update on that can be found here . Zeuss ( Hatebreed , The Autumn Offering ) will mix the album, which is slated for an April 28th release date through Ferret Music .

Poison The Well will precede the upcoming May 2009 release of their new album with a series of 3 new 7" efforts. The first to land in stores will be titled " I / III " and will see a November 11th physical/digital release date through Ferret Music . It will feature the following track listing:

Production for the effort was done by Pelle Henricsson and Eskil Loustrom ( Refused , Poison The Well ). The series of releases will feature a hidden image which will be revealed when all three records are put together. Furthermore, none of the songs on the splits will appear on the groups forthcoming new album. As previously reported, Poison The Well will enter the studio in November to officially begin recording their new album with producer J. Robbins ( Clutch , Against Me! ).

Linkin Park 's Mike Shinoda , Rage Against The Machine 's Tom Morello and Slash are all expected to contribute to Cypress Hill 's upcoming new album, more on which can be found here .

Rage Against the Machine will reportedly hit the studio in the coming months to begin work on a new studio album. A 2009 release is possible.

SATYRICON will release a digital single ahead of the release of their new album, "The Age Of Nero" , due on November 3 via Roadrunner Records . The single, which will be titled "Black Crow On A Tombstone" , will be released on all the usual platforms on October 20, and you will be able to premier the track at the web site of the UK branch of Roadrunner on October 6.

Cast Revealed for Romero's New Zombie Film
Alan Van Sprang, Kenneth Welsh ( The Fog remake), Kathleen Munroe ( Durham County ), Devon Bostick ( Saw IV ), Richard Fitzpatrick ( Breach ), Stefano Colacitti and Athena Karkanis ( Saw IV ) are starring in George Romero's untitled zombie film . Spring and Bostick each played roles in Romero's Land of the Dead , the former returned as another character in Diary of the Dead . Romero began principal photography on the latest chapter in his undead saga this week. According to Variety , the plot involves inhabitants of an isolated island (confirming what ShockTillYouDrop.com reported here ) off the North American coast who find their relatives rising from the dead to eat their kin. The leaders of the island feud over whether or not to kill their reanimated relatives or preserve them in hopes of finding a cure.

300 Part One
Director Zack Snyder told IESB that Frank Miller is writing the graphic novel that the movie's sequel will be based on. Events will take place between the Battle of Thermopylae and the Battle of Plataea, the battle that narrator Dilios (David Wenham) is at the end of "300." There's a whole year between the two battles and plenty of room for more story.

Apple May Shut Down iTunes To Protest Proposed Royalty Hike Copyright Royalty Board votes Thursday on increase in rates, threatening iTunes' 99-cent price structure. It doesn't seem like that big a jump 9 cents to 15 cents but for Apple's iTunes, a proposed bump up of the royalty rate it pays for each song purchased from its store has pushed the leading MP3 seller to threaten a shutdown in protest. The shuttering of iTunes could come as early as Thursday (October 2), when the Copyright Royalty Board in Washington, D.C., is scheduled to rule on a request from the National Music Publishers' Association to increase royalty rates paid to its members on songs purchased from online music stores like iTunes, according to Fortune. Seen another way, the 6-cent jump represents a 66 percent hike in the royalty rate, a figure Apple said could force it to raise its ironclad song price of 99 cents, something the company has steadfastly refused to do since launching five years ago, despite constant pressure from major labels to do so. While nobody from Apple has been discussing the pending decision or its earlier threat to close up shop, the company has been on the record as adamantly opposing the rate hike. According to Fortune, in a statement submitted to the board last year, iTunes Vice President Eddy Cue said Apple might shutter iTunes rather than raise its prices or absorb the higher royalty costs.

Yogi Bear Headed for the Big Screen
Warner Bros. Pictures is developing a feature version of "Yogi Bear," the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon, and Surf's Up co-helmer/co-writer Ash Brannon is attached to direct. Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia, who executive produced "That '70s Show" and are writing the feature Tooth Fairy for Fox, are penning the screenplay. Donald De Line is producing via his De Line Pictures; Karen Rosenfelt is also producing. The project is planned as a live-action/animated hybrid along the lines of Fox's 2007 hit Alvin and the Chipmunks . Much of the movie will be live-action, but Yogi Bear and sidekick Boo Boo will be done in CG. Yogi's exploits take place in Jellystone Park, where he and Boo Boo get into good-natured mischief and must elude their nemesis, Ranger Smith.

Vacancy 2: The First Cut
The story follows a few friends who stay the night at the infamous motel, where they become victims of the owners greed, when he records his masked lackies torment and murder the young group, with hopes of selling their tape on the black market. Expect to catch this film on DVD in January '09 via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment . Also, the official rating has come in: Rated R for "strong violence and terror, language and some sexual content."

According to TMZ , actor Shia LeBeouf has been injured on the set ... again. The site says he got a cut below his eyebrow that required stitches. It states, "After getting sewn up, he went right back to work. Injured hand, injured eyebrow -- no problemo."

WATCHMEN
Actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan told MTV about getting into the mind of the Comedian. "He does kind of have a twisted sense of humor," said Morgan. "There were days that weren't necessarily easy because he kind of does some sick things and so there were a couple days where, as an actor, that trying to justify what I was doing was a little difficult. But at the end of the day, man, it was awesome. How often are you going to get a chance to play the creepiest guy in the world?"

New Nintendo DSi Won't Be Sold In U.S. Until 'Well Into 2009' Updated DS, featuring cameras and MP3 player, will be available in Japan November 1. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told reporters that the newly announced Nintendo DSi won't be shipping stateside for a while. The revised system may be released on November 1 in Japan and by spring 2009 in Europe, but it won't come to the U.S. until "well into calendar year 2009," according to Fils-Aime. The Nintendo president noted that sales of the current DS Lite are still strong in the U.S., diminishing any urgency to sell the new model. By contrast, DS sales in Japan have slowed enough that the system is occasionally beaten in weekly sales by the PSP or Wii. The DSi will include two 0.3 megapixel cameras, slightly larger screens, music playback (in MP3 AAC format) and SD card storage, though its main feature is still to play DS games. Taking a hint from its big brother, Wii, the new device will have a built-in Web browser and the Nintendo DS Store. It will no longer have a Game Boy Advance cartridge slot, however.

Jack Black Reuniting with Panda Writers
The Hollywood Reporter says Jack Black is reuniting with Kung Fu Panda writers Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger for an untitled live-action action comedy at Universal. Black will produce with his Electric Dynamite partner Ben Cooley. A sort of comedic The Bourne Identity , the story sees Black as an American who finds himself washed up the shores of Cuba with no idea of who he is and how he got there. He comes to the conclusion that he must be a superspy, though in reality he is far from one."For our next live-action project, we knew we wanted to work with either a panda or Jack. Luckily, Endeavor repped Jack," Aibel said. "We also figured that if we could write for Jack as a panda, we could write for him as a human."

Live-action TMNT confirmed
"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" co-creator Kevin Eastman has confirmed the rumors that Imagi and Warner Bros. are in talks to develop a new live-action movie based on the characters. He posted the following at HeavyMetal.com: Yes, it is true. Although the CGI film did well enough to warrent a sequel, there has been much talk between Imagi and Warners to do a better "re-invention" (newest Hollywood buzzword) of the TMNT's, in a live action film--like what was done with Batman. Back to basics, back to the origin and the intro of the Shredder, etc...there have been talks, trips to Northampton to talk to Mr Laird, and discussions with the original "first" TMNT film director Steve Barron to come back and do it right--but no official word yet...will keep you posted. Dragonball Promo Teaser Online!
While we don't expect the official teaser trailer for Fox's Dragonball to hit theaters until Max Payne on October 17th, the studio is showing a promo teaser for the film at Brand Licensing Europe 2008 this week. That video has now leaked online and can be watched here. "We're just hoping it does because it felt like the right time for this kind of film and I just want to see how we'll pull off all the cool stuff in it. It's ridiculous. It's one of those movies that every idea that you can come up with is actually something you can pull off these days. There's no reason to edit yourself."

US video game retailer GameStop buys Micromania
US video game retailer GameStop announced Wednesday that it had reached agreement to purchase French video game retailer Micromania for 700 million dollars (480 million euros). GameStop's purchase of Micromania from private equity fund L Capital will give the Texas-based company, the world's largest video game retailer, a total of 5,889 locations in 16 countries, including its first stores in France. Micromania, founded in 1983, is the largest video game retailer in France with 332 stores. "The transaction is a reflection of our belief that the European video game market is growing and will be an important part of GameStop's worldwide growth," GameStop chief executive Daniel DeMatteo said in a statement. Pierre Cuilleret, who will remain Micromania's president, said he was "very enthusiastic about our potential to expand the brand that has been built for over 25 years in France." The deal, for 700 million dollars in cash including the assumption of debt, is subject to approval by the European Commission. GameStop had revenue of 7.1 billion dollars in 2007 and a net profit of 288 million dollars. Micromania's revenue totalled 500 million Euros.
