De Niro Reprising Walsh in Midnight Run 2
Universal Pictures is developing a sequel to Midnight Run , the 1988 action-comedy that starred Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin. Here's synopsis for the original:
Jack Walsh (Robert De Niro) is a tough ex-cop turned bounty hunter. Jonathan 'The Duke' Mardukas (Charles Grodin) is a sensitive accountant who embezzled $15 million from the Mob, gave it to charity and then jumped bail. Jack's in for a cool $100,000 if he can deliver The Duke from New York to L.A. on time. And alive. Sounds like just another Midnight Run (a piece of cake in bounty hunter slang), but it turns into a cross-country chase. The FBI is after The Duke to testify - the Mob is after him for revenge - and Walsh is after him to just shut up. If someone else doesn't do the job, the two unlikely partners may end up killing each other in this hilarious, action-filled blockbuster from producer-director Martin Brest (Beverly Hills Cop). Timothy Dowling ( Role Models ) will write the script that would bring back De Niro's character, Jack Walsh, and pair him with a younger comedic foil.
The 1988 film carried a budget of about $30 million and earned $38.4 million domestically.
De Niro will produce the sequel with Tribeca Films partner Jane Rosenthal.
Ridley Scott's Alien Prequel Will Be 3D
With all of the announcements of upcoming movies being planned for 3D over the next few years, one would expect that whether or not an upcoming tentpole movie will be in 3D is going to replace the "PG-13 vs. R" question that most filmmakers tend to get. The latest movie that seems to be going that route is Ridley Scott and 20th Century Fox's planned Alien Prequel .

THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA
Several sites noticed an interesting Twitter post at the page of actor Michael Cassidy. He appeared on last week's short list for the title role, but the actor writes, "No Captain America for me." If the list was accurate, does this mean the actors NOT chosen are getting calls or is Cassidy admitting he was never on the list? If the former, we might learn Cap's identity soon.

Neil Patrick Harris to Star in The Smurfs
Neil Patrick Harris will star in Sony's big screen adaptation of The Smurfs , says Deadline Hollywood . He won't be voicing one of the Smurfs though as the project is a mix of live-action and animation. Harris will play the lead live-action character.
The site says that filming begins in April, when Harris will be on hiatus from CBS' "How I Met Your Mother." The Raja Gosnell-directed film is scheduled for a July 29, 2011 release."The Smurfs" were created in 1958 by Belgian cartoonist Pierre Culliford, known throughout the world as Peyo. "The Smurfs," originally called "Les Schtroumpfs" in French, were created for a Belgian series of comic books , first as minor characters. The villagers, known for their blue skin and small statures, spawned a line of statuettes, games, toys, theme parks and a hit TV series, which ran as part of NBC's Saturday-morning lineup from 1981-90.

THE BOYS
Sam Bayer, director of the "Nightmare on Elm Street" remake tells Bloody Disgusting the following when asked about upcoming projects: "There's one comic book I really dig that I want to go after that's bad-ass. I'd like to get it, it's called 'The Boys.' It's about a group of mercenaries and they're job is to kick the shit out of superheroes who get out of line. It doesn't get any better than that. In the world of 'The Boys,' superheroes are scumbags. My youngest brother is a comic book historian and he introduced me to a lot of graphic novels like 'The Dark Knight.' There are some great books I don't think people have tapped into yet." Oddly enough, before that interview was posted, MTV News posted a quick talk with "Boys" artist Darick Robertson in which he mentioned, "I feel very confident -- especially when we discussed the screenplay -- that it's faithful and they really are happy with it. They wanted it to be faithful and the writers seem to have delivered." There was no mention of Sam Bayer, though. It's just interesting to see the project get some press in a fashion that almost looks coordinated.

Eric Powell tells MTV News everything is falling into place for the animated feature based on his series. He does mention the necessity of adaptation from one medium to the next. One thing Powell cannot says is whether or not David Fincher will end up as the film's director. "Fincher is heavily involved and he's going to have final say over everything, so we will get his input -- he won't just be a figurehead."

Resident Evil Trailer With Elm Street
On her Twitter feed earlier this evening, actress Milla Jovovich announced that the first trailer for the fourth installment of the "Resident Evil" franchise, Resident Evil: Afterlife , will be premiering at the end of April in front of New Line's remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street . According to Jovovich, "it takes place in the early 80's and its a comedy about two teens who run away from home leaving their dysfunctional parents freaking out."
She's scheduled to shoot that sometime later this month.

IRON MAN 2
Various sites are linking to a featurette about the film's Monaco sequence on the French version of MSN . There is some interesting new footage in the clip, including a little more Black Widow action.
WANTED 2
The Loom of Fate has, um ... knitted? New York Magazine's Vulture reports Angelina Joile has dropped out of the sequel, effectively killing the project. According to Vulture, she skipped out on the project to star in a filmed called "Gravity" by "Children of Men" director Alfonso Cuarón. That film had been set ip at Universal -- the same studio as "Wanted 2" -- but, Vulture writes, "a few weeks ago, the studio put 'Gravity' into turnaround, possibly because it's such an artistically challenging project: Jolie would be alone on-screen for much of the movie, playing the sole surviving human member of a space mission, desperately trying to return home to Earth and her daughter."
THE FLASH
Busy week for DC Entertainment, it seems. IESB is reporting the long in development "Flash" film finally has a director in the form of Greg Berlanti. Berlanti is a co-writer on "Green Lantern" and director of the upcoming "Life as We Know it." It's still a rumor at this point as there's nothing but radio silence from DC Entertainment on all of these leaks. If all of this week's rumors turn out to be true, it puts the DC stable of characters in a much better place, film wise. It would be nice to see some of it get confirmed.
