NR: What made you decide to release "Thugcore 4 Life" on Suburban Noize Records?
Danny Diablo: I spoke to my co-manager and best friend Jamey Jasta and he pointed out that while I am recording my new record for Hellcat/Epitaph that I should put out the e.p. that I did for Travis Barker's label cause the songs were so dope. There were 6 songs on the e.p. that people really never heard cause the label went under and only like 2 thousand were printed. So he introduced me to Kevin Zinger who own's Suburban Noize and we all decided that we would put the 6 songs from the e.p. plus 3 dope songs that I put out on a street c.d. that I released on my own ILL-ROC label. We then recorded 3 new songs just for the Suburban Noize release. Travis Barker is my boy and gave me back the master's from the e.p. and that made life a little easier for me. So now 12 hardcore hip hop tracks were ready to destroy the world were collected and now released on one record. "Thugcore 4 Life"
NR: For people picking up the record Thugcore 4 life, what song do you hope they listen to in full?
Danny Diablo: I am really happy with "We Don't Care", "Living By The Gun" and "Mechanix".
NR: For a lot of people who have not got to see you live before what can they expect when they see you live?
Danny Diablo: Controlled Chaos and Mayhem. A great live show. New York Hardcore style.
NR: Nowadays the media blames musicians for all the recent violence in the world. What are your thoughts on the media and parents putting the blame of the recent violence on artists?
Danny Diablo: Parenting is what it all comes down to. You teach your kid what is real and what is not. Tell your children the difference of entertainment and reality. When I went to Chuck Norris movies when I was a kid I knew that I couldn't got to school and karate chop my fellow student in the neck cause it wasn't a kung foo flic, it was public school second grade!!! Fuck the media...
NR: You played CBBG's a lot and there was talks about CBGB's opening a new venue before Hilly Kristal past away. What are your thoughts on a new CBGB's?
Danny Diablo: I grew up going to hardcore matinees at C.B.G.B's every Sunday when I was a kid. I loved and hated that place. A lot of great memories with me and my friends in the Lower East Side going to C.B.'s. Gonna miss that dump. Played my first show there with my band Discipline and played one of the last show's there with Danny Diablo. Icepick and Danny Diablo also played there first shows there!!! Hilly R.I.P.
NR: What are some of the artists you are listening to and want other people to check out?
Danny Diablo:Right now I am listening to Jamiraqui on the plane from Philly to L.A . I like House Of Blow and Natasha Nicholson as new artist. Puerto Rican Myke and Slaine are my 2 favorite artist from the D.M.S. camp.
NR: What has a fan do for you that went above and beyond your expectations of a fan?
Danny Diablo: I get really nice fans. Michelle T. from Chrome Angels Jewelery made me a $1,200 handmade beltbuckle. It is a Black and Blue Skull made with Black and Blue gems. All the rappers pay like $2,500 for these beltbuckles and she personally made me one for free!!! Now I got $5.oo in my pocket but $1,200 holding up my pants!!!
NR: With 2007 coming to an end, what are your plans as of now for 2008?
Danny Diablo: To tour on this record and show all these new fans of mine what Danny Diablo is about. I am going to tour off "Thugcore 4 Life" and spread the Suburban Noize message!!! All the bands on the label are great. So I will be on the road with my new family... Showing the world how D.M.S. and Sub Noize make real underground music for the masses. Watch out for my new release for Danny Diablo in 2008 on Hellcat/Epitaph records. The record will be produced by Tim Armstrong and be called "International Hardcore Superstar . Thank you so much for this interview. Peace. 1.
