Divide The Day
NR: How did you come up with the title for your last CD, "Pretty Girls with Ugly Boys?"
Joseph: There were a lot of pretty girls with ugly boyfriends.
Billy: And we would get mad.
Joseph :We would wonder why. So we named the album that. All over California.
Billy: Actually it was because of Utah. We were in Utah and there are a lot of pretty girls. The guys they were with were ugly.
Joseph: Like when you go to the mall and you see a really pretty girl and you wonder why that girl is with that guy and why that guy is with that girl. It's not that we are any better.
NR: How did you get signed to Pluto Records?
Billy: It took about a year or so. We kept sending them albums. We sent them two EP's. Finally the last EP titled "Vegas Baby Vegas" he really liked it. He wanted to check us out but he wasn't able to make it out to a couple shows. So finally he called us one day and was like 'You know what, it's a no brainer. I love your band and I want to sign you."
Joseph: So after talking to him for a year and sending him stuff he finally got back to us and signed us.
NR: So what advice could you give a band that is trying to get signed?
Billy: You have to tour hard. One of the things that helped us get signed was that we had a big tour roster. Mass touring.
Anthony: It's a lot of working your butt off.
Joseph: That's just the first part of it. There is a lot that goes into it.
NR: Do you guys plan on re releasing your previous recordings?
Joseph: We were going to re-record some of the vocals on the old album.
Billy: Yeah it's a small possibility. The worst case scenario is that we have the CD's and we will burn copies off for people.
NR: You have been on the road a lot. What is the worst experience you have had on the road?
Justin: Diarrhea.
Joseph:It was in Texas about a year ago. The whole band caught the Texas Flu epidemic. We had 102 degree fevers and we had to stop and recover in a motel and cancel a couple of shows.
Billy: Another thing that sucks is that their are not sanitary toilet seat covers anywhere other than in California it seems. So we bring our own.
Joseph: Flat tires happen sometimes.
Justin: Like yesterday.
NR: When a critic writes a bad review of your CD's do you take it to heart?
Billy: That never happens.
Justin: We haven't had a really bad one.
Billy: There is one I remember. I happen to agree with him. He compared our music to mixing Oreo's with lemonade. He said it wasn't a good combination.
Anthony: I happen to like Oreo's with lemonade.
Billy: What we read we take as constructive criticism.
NR: What is the hardest part of being in the band?
Anthony: Dealing with Bill.
Justin: Touring. Driving a lot.
Billy: Touring is actually great. It's the driving that's hard. The first 5 tours were hard but then you get use to it and it's a lot of fun.
Joseph:Playing to crowds that don't understand our music because they are stuck in another time era. That really sucks.
NR: For people who haven't heard you before, what are some of your influences?
Billy: Anything from the 80's. I really love Iron Maiden. I'm a real Iron Maiden fan. I know every single album and every single song.
NR: What's next for the band?
Randy: New album. A lot of touring. Single bass drum pedal.
Billy: No more double bass.
Randy: That's about it. A bunch of good looking dudes.
Anthony: We are all growing dreadlocks too!
