NR: When did you guys come together to create KDT?
Roger: Was it late 2003?
Joey: Late 2003, like October 2003.
Roger: Yeah 2003, a month after Sad Machine Broke up and a couple of months after Sorry about Tomorrow broke up.
NR: Is there any real meaning to the name KDT?
Roger: There you would have to talk to our singer Mike Otto about that. He wrote a short story when he was a senior in high school. He was 18. It was about children rising above what they are expected to be. Like if you're born into a poor family it's just expected that you're just going to be a scum bag the rest of your life instead of... Uh I don't know.
Joey: It's all about rising above.
Roger: Yeah It's all about rising above.
NR: Do you guys have a manager right now?
Roger: Yeah.
Joey: Yeah, Nuk.
Roger: I don't want to say in a lose form of the word but yeah we have a manager.
Joey: Nuk.
Roger: Yeah we have a manger. He takes care of everything and doesn't get paid. He's helped us out a lot.
Joey: He makes it a lot easier on us.
Roger: A lot easier.
NR: When did you guys pick him up as a manager?
Roger: What, about a year ago.
Joey: Yeah, it was about a year ago.
Roger: Did you say why or when.
Joey: When.
Roger: Oh, ok.
Joey: Well he actually came up to us he was the manger of another local band. He came to us, he presented us with a whole list on why he wanted to manage us. It was actually pretty good. And since then he has done a lot for us.
NR: Do you guys consider your music trendy for the time?
Joey: Laughing!
Roger: God... I hope not... Maybe...
Joey: Maybe.
Roger: We just write what we want to write.
Joey: I think there are so many genres and sub genres of metal and hardcore it's hard to place us. you can't say we;re metal you can't say we;re hardcore.
Roger: Or metalcore.
Joey: Yeah, or metalcore.
Roger: we came up with a word on what we play. It is sprunt.
Joey: Sprunt.
Roger: Yeah, because we're sick of labels.
Joey: We don't know what we are.
NR: You hear around town on how K.D.T. acts like Rock Stars. Is there any truth to that or is it just people talking shit?
Joey: I think it's a mixture of both.
Roger: I don't think that anybody gets that from me or him.
Joey: I think we're the only two that don't act like Rock Stars. I mean we love our band.
Roger: I think everybody should have a little attitude. I don't want to talk down about any bands or anything like that but if I don't think I'm in the best band then why the fuck am I playing here.
Joey: It's what local scenes do. They talk shit and everybody is a back stabber, unfortunately. I'm in the best band ever! Just kidding.
NR: There has been a huge buzz around you guys that labels have been looking at you. Is there any truth to that?
Roger: Not to are knowledge.
Joey: Apparently we were signed to Hopeless.
Roger: We heard that.
Joey: We don't know. We do have some people talking to us online.
Roger: Artist development.
Joey: We actually got an e-mail today from a label called Thirteen Stars.
Roger: I didn't know that.
Joey: See it's new to him. Yeah Thirteen Stars asked us for something, like any label.
Roger: But yeah none of the rumors are true, though.
NR: You guys promote a lot. Which one do you thinks works better, word of mouth or flyering?
Roger: Flyering.
Joey: Flyering. That's the way we work it. Flyering as much as we can. We have Radley who's the king of promotions. He makes the signs and flyers. We have Miller who does the online promotions. We also have a kick ass street team that does flyering for us too. So I pick flyering over word of mouth.
Roger: Flyering.
NR: You guys are recording a CD now how long has it taken?
Roger: I don't want to say that, because it's taken so fucking long. But we started in December of last year recording the six songs but because of personal problems not within the band. Like we all work day jobs. We can't get in the studio as much as we like and our producer couldn't get in the studio as much he likes. So it has taken a lot longer then we hoped but the end result will exceed everyone's expectations.
Joey: One to two more sessions before tracking is all done.
NR: So is there any date for release?
Roger: It's going to be around September.
NR: What has been the best show you guys have done to date?
Joey: Best show we have done to date...
Roger: I can tell you the worse one.
NR: Ok, worse one then.
Roger: The worse one was the fucking Warped Tour.
Joey: Warped Tour.
Roger: Warped Tour last year. Worse show ever. It sucked.
Joey: All kinds of technical difficulties.
Roger: It sucked. It was like 120 degrees.
Joey: One of the best shows, was our last one at Gameworks.
Roger: The last one.
Joey: Or last Gameworks show.
Roger: The last one we played with By Death's Design... The benefit show.
Joey: The benefit show.
Roger: The benefit show for Crystal.
Joey: Gameworks was probably one of the best shows we did.
NR: What does the future hold for KDT?
Roger: In the near future releasing the CD, then touring, then down the road we'd like to get signed. We're not expecting it. We are just going to keep doing what we love.
