Kottonmouth Kings ( Interview with Daddy X of The Kottonmouth Kings)
Official Site |

NR: The Kottonmouth Kings are constantly touring and releasing CD's. On average how much time would you say you take off during a year?

Daddy X: Never. I'm always busy. I'm either writing with Kottonmouth or I'm working on another track or one of my side projects. So I really never get time to spend at home not working.

NR: You have been an opener for some big tours such as ICP's Wicked Wonka tour. Do you mind being an opener for a tour?

Daddy X: We have played with ICP a lot. They are always great with us and the fans really took us in. We always love to tour with them!

NR: The new Sub Noize Souljaz CD has a track with the original Kottonmouth Kings line-up which is causing rumors on the internet that Saint is coming back to join the Kings. Is there any truth to this rumor?

Daddy X: Well lets see how long it takes for Saint to get out of jail. There is no truth to that though. He is a recording artist on Suburban Noize Records. Everything is cool. He has a new CD out. But he hasn't been in the group for 8 years now.

NR: The "Stoners Reeking Havoc" EP is out of print and you can get most of the tracks on the first "Hidden Stash" CD except for one called "Homegrown Bump." Are there any plans on re-releasing the track again on a new CD?

Daddy X: No, not that I know of. We do have a record coming out called Hidden Stash 3. It's going to be a double disc with 30 tracks. It will be songs that are unreleased, b-sides and tracks that we did with other people that appeared on their albums. Maybe we will put it on that.

NR: You guys tend to go through a lot of herb. How much would you say you go through in a month?

Daddy X: We go through a lot of herb. Every individual is different. The bottom line is it's not about smoking weed or not smoking weed. It's about having the personal freedom to make that choice without having some government or a guy with a badge and a gun throwing you in a cage over you making that choice. It's a plant that was put here by the creator that created all forms of life. It should be a choice by an individual on whether they want to smoke or not. Weed is just a symbol of personal freedom.

NR: If you see a bad review about Kottonmouth Kings do you take it to heart?

Daddy X: I don't pay an ounce of attention to a bad review. Kottonmouth Kings have never been a critics band. We make music and play music for people to buy tickets or the CDs. That's all I care about. The people validate it not the critics. Critics probably hail groups that I don't even like. It's one persons opinion. That person that is sitting in the office with a suit and tie on doesn't get the Kottonmouth Kings music is ok by me. I probably don't even like the magazine he writes for. It's what makes the world go around. Everyone has an opinion and everyone has a right to that opinion. We just happen to have a way to get our opinions out to the world. There are people that buy the records and appreciate what we do. We make the music for that person.

NR: Have you ever had any moments with fans that were out of control or scared you?

Daddy X: Not not really. People are people. Sometimes people abuse certain substances just as speed and tweakers and even sometimes alcohol and they get a little out of control. But that's on them. I don't project that kind of negative energy. If someone wants to come at me with negativity is fine. That's their own thing they need to deal with. We don't really have a problem with it. For the most part we get a lot of love and respect from the people that come to our shows. The people that don't like us or what we do probably won't waste their times going to our shows. So we don't see too much of them. It's the same thing with the critics. If you don't like the Kottonmouth Kings don't buy a CD and don't come to the shows. It's as simple as that.

NR: What can fans expect next?

Daddy X: There is Hidden Stash 3 coming out. It's a double disc with 30 tracks on it. There is a home DVD called "The Joint Is On Fire" coming out. It's a live concert DVD. It also will come with a bonus DVD. It has a bunch a unreleased Kottonmouth Kings video's on it and all the new Subnoize shit that hasn't been released. Such as Subnoize Souljaz video's and stuff from other Sub Noize bands like (hed) pe and X Clan. It will be stuff that you may not have seen anywhere besides on the internet, all that underground shit. That's why we make those DVD's. TV isn't playing Kottonmouth Kings and Suburban Noize. We put out DVD's so people can get that shit. They can't stop what we are doing. If people want the music and want the videos and they don't want to play it on their stations we will get it out to the people in another way. Like I said before people validate the music.
