Rx Theory

NR: Can you describe the sound of Rx Theory to people that have not heard you yet?

Lloyd: No
Jorge: Lets skip this one.
Jorge: It's just a bunch of different influences put together. and you know... um..
NR: You want to list some?
Lloyd: O my god, jeez!
Jorge: I don't know there are thousands of them. Portishead, Bjork, Muse, well for my end. Anything that basically pushes the envelope. I'm not into too much heavy stuff but there is some like As I lay Dying and shit like that. Basically it's just a mash of different stuff, different influences put together, that everyone brings to the table. If you take one listen you'll hear that because it's pretty chaotic sometimes. It adds to the charm.

NR: Do you feel local bands need managers?

Brad: Good local bands.
Lloyd: Not necessarily. The only time, I feel, a local band should have a manager is if they are to a certain level or the manager can do something for them that they can't do themselves.
Jorge: I think a lot of the times people put managers in bands because it adds to the chaoticness of the formula of the band. And I think a lot of local bands, as far as Las Vegas goes, tries to step up to that next plate by adding a manager, though I think it's kind of pointless.
Lloyd: A manger only works if they believe in the band themselves. A lot of local bands like to go out and find somebody just to find somebody but that manager isn't going to work for them if they don't believe in them.
Jorge: There's a lot of girls who want to be promoters, managers or streetteamers...
Evan: I think it's good experience to do it on your own. Get that experience talking to booking agents or whoever. To get your feet wet.
Lloyd: Though we do have a manager.

NR: There goes the next question.

Jorge: We have a manager but he's also a good friend of the band and he was a friend of the band before, well he approached us, but before we even enlisted him as the 6th member of the band... our 5th member of the band is at work tonight. He's been with us for awhile so we thought it would be cool to add him in. He does work his ass off for us because we are not an easy bunch to deal with.
Brad: And he believes in us and that's the other key thing we mentioned.
Jorge: He's a big fan and we are a big fan of what he supply's.
Llyod: Makes for a lot of fun on the road.

NR: What made you guys decide to pick him up as the manager?

Jorge: Like we said he was just a friend of the bands. He knows a lot of people and he helps us out a lot.
Brad: Helps us stay more organized.
Lloyd: He believes in us. He has a small amount of experience doing it and he'll work his ass off for us. That's pretty much it.

NR: Are you collectively doing this do make a living or for the love of money?

Evan: It starts with the love.
Jorge: Yea, definitely.
Evan: You can't do it if you don't love it.
Lloyd: It would be great to do it for a living. But you got to love what your doing first off.
Evan: If it happens it happens. But you can't think that way.
Lloyd: You have to do it for yourself more than you got to do it for other people.
Brad: You can't force the issue.
Jorge: At this point in time we've invested more money than we gotten out of it. It's pretty obvious that we do it because we love it. Even if we never make a living I still think every single member of this band would do it be it with this band or another band or even by themselves at home. We'd all still do what we do individually.
Brad: It's for the love.

NR: What do you think of the present scene from what it was a couple of years ago?

Evan: It's definitely improved. I think bands have more passion.
Lloyd: It's definitely CHANGED. Let's put it that way.
Jorge: I've seen some progression and some regression. Being in a local band, playing in the scene for so long I think a lot of the people who were in it to be rock stars have obviously faded away or just left. It kind of schemed away everybody who stayed in it for the love of being in the band or playing music. On the other hand I've seen a lot of decent promoters and decent clubs go under because of the lack of support the scene has put up. Now that has happened a lot of kids are like "Where's the scene? When I was growing up I heard about, now that I'm old enough to be a part of it, it's no longer there." Hopefully sometime in the near future we will get a better venue that's not the Cheyenne Saloon. And that's not so involved in the money aspect of it. Hopefully one day that will happen. When that happens with the current bands that we have now we have a huge potential for a good scene. There are a TON of great bands but no where to play.
Lloyd: I think a lot of bands just stopped. They just said hey fuck it. Were done, this scene's over. Especially when the old boston closed. I remember so many bands there all the time. Like every night of the week.
NR: It was all about the Rock!
Jorge: The rock.. dollar drink's bitches!
Lloyd: And the rock was fun. It was awesome
Jorge: But I mean like Tremorz. God bless Tremorz. They were one of the first venues I went to that even if you didn't have money they would still let you in. And I know it kind of fucked them in the long run. It was still cool. I got to see a lot of my favorite bands play at such a small venue. And a lot of bands that did play there are now huge bands such as Thursday and The Melvins.
Lloyd: Same with Roma.
Jorge: Yea, but Roma, kind of sucked ass.
Lloyd: Roma sucked ass but at least you could see some cool ass bands there.
Brad: That's some old school shit.
Jorge: Now we are very cut down on where we can go and what we can do. And that's with me being 21. I can go into any bar but I rather not because they all fucking suck. Gameworks is probably the only place worth playing to an all age's crowd. Because the Roadhouse is not the best but it will do.

NR: With this upcoming album how long did it take you to record it?

Brad: We recorded and we scratched it. And we recorded some more and we scratched it some more.
Evan: We pre-produced it in San Diego like...
Jorge: Last year...
Lloyd: June.
Jorge: The funny thing about this record is it's not even a record anymore. We just put some much effort and time into this we feel it would be a loss if we didn't put something out. But we progressed so much as a band especially adding Jay in. We didn't want to put it out but we looked at the down side of that and so many people were waiting for us to put something out. So we said screw it and we picked the best songs that we felt had the most potential or that we liked the best out of the 6-7 songs that we started out with. A year later we are finally putting it out next week. It's really not, I think, an album that represents us. Which is sad but...
Brad: It represents what we were and what we were hopefully going to become.
Jorge: I mean we started recording it about a month after we got Evan. We had no idea what we were doing. Some of the songs were already written and some weren't. We came and leased it and recorded it. We thought it sounded good but we don't really like it.
Brad: It could be better.
Jorge: After tons of mixing and we went in there and engineered and with the help of everybody else we all mixed it together. We finally came out with a product that was decent. And that's what we are putting out. It's probably a year and half, short answer.
Brad: We feel ok with it right now. We're happy with it right now.
Lloyd: It's kind of like that first step on a roadmap to where we were a year ago or six months ago. Hopefully with our next record it will be a full length your going to see the progression. And that's the most exciting thing about releasing this record. This is where we are going to be to than opposed to where we were at.
Jorge: We are growing up kids.
Evan: Well put. I felt a tear.

NR: Other than at live shows where will kids be able to pick up the record at?

Jorge: Tower Records. On our web sites. Or email us on myspace if you can not fathom or comprehend what I just said. Or just Big B's anywhere we can put it out or make it accessible.
Lloyd: Hold on, let me give you my address so you can bug me at home.
Jorge: I'll be walking around with back packs. Anywhere
Lloyd: Look for the ugly ass beige truck with the Rx Theory sticker on the back. I'll be slangin CD's out the back.
Jorge: Like 50 Cent. We are going to be on the new Funk Flex mix tape.
Lloyd: Summer of Crunk 2005 Bitch!

NR: After playing bars a lot recently like the Cheyenne why are you doing it at
Game Works?
Jorge: For some strange reason we have a strong all age's following. We wanted an opportunity to give it to more than just the 30-40 standard people that are at the Cheyenne.
Lloyd: The 21+ people.
Jorge: a lot of kids I know are excited about finally getting the CD. And one of the bands we are playing with have a big all age's crowd, we are big fans of them also. We didn't want them to hang outside while we are playing.
Lloyd: It's kind of cool to be able to sell it to not only adults but to kids. And Game Works gives us the opportunity to do it to both.
Evan:They have been good to us also.
Jorge: Everyone at Game Works the whole production crew has been really cool to us.
Lloyd: It sounds like we are sucking there dicks right now.
Brad: It's centrally located so that's great.
Jorge: It's on the strip so you can go drink after us.
NR: You can't forget Game Works and the cheap drinks.
Jorge: Oh yea free drinks. They hook us up with free drinks all night. So we have a CD release party and we get to drink for free!
Lloyd: Then we can go over to Sin that new strip club and have the after party.

NR: We've seen that you guys have a lot of sponsors, have you ever turned anyone down?

Jorge: Yes we have. I'm actually wearing one of their shirts right now. I'm broke dude.
Lloyd: You haven't done your shirt laundry bitch!
Jorge: It's true I haven't done laundry in awhile. As far as our sponsorships we have sought after them because we enjoy their products like Yamaha, they are a great guitar company. I got the chance to meet some people from there and they were great people. That's why I support their shit. I could just go buy another type of guitar. It's the same way with Monster Energy drinks.
Lloyd: Brad keeps them in business.
Jorge: They help us out and they have free product. They gave us cases of that shit. And Mind Trix clothing another one of our sponsors. Zach the owner is a great guy. We try to push them whenever we can. We make sure everyone involved with the band knows about them.
Brad: You can order their clothing up online.
Lloyd: It's M-I-N-D-T-R-I-X .com

NR: Playing outside of Vegas is there any other markets showing you respect?

Jorge: That's kind of a tough question. You can't find anymore love than your hometown. We have played out in LA a few times. As much as we love being out there the LA scene sucks really big dick. Maybe it's us, maybe they just don't like us, but I really love to play Vegas. People think we are the Killers every time we leave town.
Brad: Which isn't true.
Evan: The scene out there is so saturated though. There are so many bands out there.
Jorge: And they all want to be Guns-n-Roses. Or Velvet Revolver.
Lloyd: It is a respect thing out there. If they don't know you they don't care.
Brad: They diss you pretty quick.
Lloyd: We do make our presence felt every time we are out there. It takes a lot of hard work and a lot of playing to get people to know who you are out there. There is 14 million people living out in LA county.
Jorge: I heard Kingman is pretty cool!
NR: Not since I left! Boulder City too?
Jorge: Boulder City too.
Lloyd: Boise, Idaho, has treated us really well too!
(group laughing)

NR: What's in your CD players now?

Evan: Ill Figures are in my CD player right now.
Lloyd: I just picked up the first Code 7 CD. The one before the Equal Vision release. At home I have Ben Folds.
Jorge: I always listen to Bjork and I got the new Mindless Self Indulgence. I also have 36 Crazyfists.
Lloyd: I got that single today. It has two covers on it, it's weird.
Brad: I listen to everything else they do but more sometimes. Like I listen to Primus, Queen, White Pepper, Fugazi, new Mars-Volta.
Lloyd: The new Mars-Volta is the shit!
Jorge: Seconds To Spare, By The Fall
NR: Sad Machine!
Jorge: Pull.

NR: With a lot of local bands sleeping with their groupies, do you think it's a good idea or a bad one?

Jorge: Take it where you can get it mother fuckers!
Brad: I agree with Jorge, take it where you can get it but it's...
Jorge: I'll fuck anything that moves!
Lloyd: I just think it's a bad move. You sleep with your fans and you piss them off like tell them you love them or something...
Brad: You can't go there dude!
Jorge: I think with this band that's not an issue. Everyone has girlfriends but Evan. If anybody wants to hit anyone in this band they can go for the singer. We all love our girlfriends!
Lloyd: He does not discriminate. 14 years old he doesn't care.
Brad: Get a fake I.D.
Jorge: We all have devoted girlfriends and we love them very much. Evan can fuck everyone he wants.
Lloyd: Just make sure you have a vagina...
Jorge: Or not...

NR: With the new CD coming out what can people expect from you guys?

Jorge: For us not to play any of that shit live. Because we are basically done with that. People have been coming up to me and asking us not to play Halo again. If you want to hear it come out to the show. This will be the last time we play it for awhile. But we have a lot of new music that's more aggressive and progressive. That's what people can expect is growth. No matter what this band goes through one thing we can promise is we will always grow. It will never be the same ole' Las Vegas sound. We will not be Rap-Rock.
Lloyd: We are not Cheyenne metal.
Jorge: We are not a metal band. No matter how bad we get.
Brad: We are not going to sound like we are british.
Jorge: We tried to open up for Anthrax but some band pulled the spot.
Lloyd: Coldplay turned us down for some reason.
