Danger Radio - Punch Your Lights Out
Put your dance shoes on and get ready to dance until you can't anymore. Danger Radio has just put out their new EP entitled, “Punch Your Lights Out.” Danger Radio is part of a new breed of artists on the market that you cannot easily place in a specific genre. They simply put together good dance pop music. Danger Radio’s "Punch Your Lights Out," is a mix of rock, jazz, and funk put together for a huge sound bigger than any sound a sound system could put out. ( DangerRadio.net )

Danny Diablo - Thugcore 4 Life
If you been following the underground music circuit then you already know who Danny Diablo is. Danny Diablo has worked with everyone from Jamey Jasta, Tim Armstrong, to Danny Boy & Necro. Thugcore 4 Life takes influences of brutal hardcore to the real hip hop of the streets. The opening track "We Don't Care" takes hardcore back to the radio unfriendly style that is was known for before hardcore became a product. Then on" Funky Rhyme" Danny Diablo brings an old school west coast hip hop vibe. To the monstrous hip hop tacks of "Satanic Shamrocks" & "Mecanix." There is an all star guest list on this record from Daddy X, Danny Boy, to Necro as well as others. Which does not take from Danny but makes great outstanding tracks with the guests throughout the record. Thugcore 4 Life is a real Hardcore 4 Life record for both rock and rap genres.

Daphne Loves Derby - Good Night, Witness Light
Mellow and melodic, Daphne Loves Derby brings their full length "Good Night, Witness Light" with joy and compassion. They are calm, but at the same time they invoke different emotions. The song "Our Hero Shot" they use a marching band, which is very different. And the song "Cue the Sun" is very emotional. The singers voice is calming and this is a very good CD for those who like indie/emo. "Good Night, Witness Light" is a must-have for all fans of the indie/pop/emo genres.

Darfur Now
In this internationally acclaimed inspirational documentary follows six people who are striving to end the suffering in Sudan 's war-ravaged Darfur . Be an eyewitness to the tragedy and the triumphs as well as the fear and the pride. Meet the refugees determined to return to their beloved homeland and discover how you too can make a difference. Hard to watch but impossible to turn away from, Darfur Now, aims to educate, illuminate, and, most of all, motivate viewers to somehow get involved in bringing the calamitous situation in that African land to an end. Some basic facts are provided at the beginning of writer-director Theodore Braun's 98-minute documentary: Located in western Sudan , Darfur, a region about the size of France with a population of six million, has been in a state of severe crisis since 2003, when non-Arabs rebelled against the Muslim government. Working in tandem with the dread Janjaweed (literally "devils on horseback") to wipe out the rebels, military forces have enacted a relentless and systematic genocide that has resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths, with millions more displaced. The film then focuses on six individuals and their roles in the conflict. Luis Moreno-Ocampo, prosecutor for the International Criminal Court, works to collect evidence to use against the Sudanese authorities; Adam Sterling, a young American enraged by the lack of world response to the crisis, campaigns in California to pass legislation to force companies with interests in Sudan to divest; Pablo Recalde of the West Darfur World Food Program strives to provide food and save lives; Ahmed Mohammad Abakar, chief sheikh at a camp for displaced persons in Darfur, tries to rally his people; Hejewa Adam, a female rebel, trains to fight the Janjaweed; and actor-author Don Cheadle uses his celebrity (as well as George Clooney's) to raise public and official awareness of the situation. (The Sudanese government is represented by its U.N. ambassador, an unctuous individual who complains that the West has "over-dramatized" the situation) These efforts are not without their successes: Sterling gets his bill passed, Recalde's food gets distributed, and Ocampo brings charges against two Sudanese officials (a largely hollow gesture, as the government refuses to surrender them). Beautifully filmed and edited, with multiple stories taking place on several fronts, Darfur Now plays more like a fictional drama than a documentary. But it's all too real, of course. "We must be patient until the white people come," says one of the rebels. It's a poignant, slightly pathetic statement, but unless that happens, this story will have no happy ending. www.takepart.com/DarfurNow |

David Rovics - Songs For Mahmud
The musical version of democracy is what the press has labeled David Rovics. This folk singer/songwriter makes the listener think. “Songs for Mahmud” actually gives credit to listeners instead of giving them everything they have already been fed by everyone else. This is good music that has a message behind it. You can take whatever you want from it, though. It’s safe to say that David Rovics is probably a guy George W. Bush would probably like to see at Guantanamo Bay.

![Day of The Dead [2008]](/reviewimagestwo/dayofthedead.jpg)
Day of The Dead [2008]
This is a remake by name only. The only thing this shares in common with the original is some zombies, the military and a couple of actors. Most of the characters are created for this movie and the whole plot is completely different. “Day of the Dead” ‘08 is only a remake by name attempting to cash in on the success of the “Dawn of the Dead” remake and Romero's other “Dead” flicks. “Day of the Dead” is entertaining due to how bad it is. As a remake of “Day Of The Dead” it is a travesty of a film and a complete insult to the original. As a stand alone movie it's actually fun in how bad it is. I was able, after awhile, to not think of the original and take this movie for what it is; a silly zombie flick.
Day Of The Dead at IMDB.com ![Dead Silince [Unrated]](images/Deadsilence.jpg)
Dead Silence [Unrated]
A decent story idea, but as it went on I felt a huge cliche with a lot of other corporate horror cinema. Dead Silence is from director James Wan and writer Leigh Whannel; the same duo who crafted the first Saw film and oversaw their sequels. Dead Silence also marks a departure in terms of changing the pace from the torture horror sub-genre to a more typical slasher fare which we get here. The change isn't necessarily for the better either, even though Dead Silence has more going for it than you may think it does. For starters, it's pretty safe to say that many people think of ventriloquist dolls as being creepy by themselves, and here the film doesn't disappoint. Besides the overly creepy atmosphere though, Dead Silence doesn't do much else right in the horror department, and isn't scary or remotely suspenseful one bit. The gore effects aren't much to write home about either, and the film as a whole just feels lazily put together. In the end, you've just got to feel sorry for Donnie Wahlberg (Saw II and III, Band of Brothers) who gets no help as a detective here. All in all, Dead Silence isn't a total turkey, but there's nothing overly redeeming about it either.

Deftones - Saturday Night Wrists
Deftones are back with a unique mellow sound that their third album, White Pony had by bringing soft but yet cutting edge sound. Deftones have focused on a new higher quality sound. The CD has a similar feel to vocalist Chino Moreno's side project CD "Team Sleep." This album is a far stretch from the band's earlier material (Adrenaline & Around the Fur). The Deftones brought in two special guests for this release, Serj Tankian & Annie Hardy, to lend a helping hand in vocals for the record. I have to give credit to Annie and the Deftones for making one of the most beautiful as well as disturbing tracks to be on the record, "Pink Cellphone." For a person just listening to the track in the background it comes off as innocent and sweet. Then go back and listen to the lyrics of the vocals by Annie Hardy. One has to think, what was going on when they wrote it. You're not going to hear the blood curdling scream that vocalist Chino Moreno is known for, not to say the records doesn't have it's hard moments, but not as much as the band's previous releases. With age the Deftones prove you don't have to be a heavy band all the time to make good music.

The Death of a President (DVD)
Winner of the International Critic's Award at the Toronto Film Festival, “The Death of a President” is conceived as a fictional TV documentary broadcast in 2008, reflecting on a monstrous and cataclysmic event: the assassination of President George W. Bush on October 19th, 2007. The ‘documentary' artfully combines archival footage and carefully composed interviews presented in a respectful and dignified manner. The film doesn't advocate violence; rather, it shows its pernicious effects. It is exciting and questioning, and it offers viewers a riveting story creating a provocative political thriller that reveals larger truths.

Deliver Us From Evil
Innocence and faith, all betrayed. One of the hardest documentaries I have watched in years. This documentary recounts the tragic story of sexual abuse at the hand of reverend Catholic priest Father O' Grady himself, confessions from the victims and their families and unsettling videotaped legal depositions of O' Grady's superiors. Director Amy Berg reveals a disturbing and unforgettable portrait of sin, corruption, betrayal, and innocence forever lost. What makes Deliver Us From Evil a crucial viewing are the remarkable interviews with a few of the victims (now adults) and their parents, whose stories are wrenching and riveting. With the support of a priest seeking to reform the church, two of the victims actually go to the Pope, seeking some form of help in addressing O' Grady's crimes. This stunningly potent documentary combines raw feeling with lucid and persuasive discussions of the reasons for and disturbing crisis within the Church.

The Devil Wears Prada - Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord
I don't know if prada is a good clothing brand, but The Devil Wears Prada is one bad ass band. I thought metal had gone down hill, until I heard The Devil Wears Prada. The first track"The Ascent" is a soft instrumental that leads you into the track "Gauntlet of Solitude" which grabs you by the balls on how hard it hits. The records does not let you go until the end. The album has great guitar work and hard hitting vocals. The Devil Wears Prada is taking music and setting a high bar for Metal. ( www.myspace.com/tdwp )

The Devil Wears Prada - Plagues
Don't be scared parents, it's only music. When I said "don't be scared parents" I really mean it. The Devil Wears Prada is fast growling music that can come off typical to a lot of people. If you look in between the lines you can find meaningful lyrics with outstanding musical talent to back it up. The song titles on "Plagues" are a bit long but do fit the genre in which a lot of people would place them in (Hardcore/Post Hardcore/Metal). They have a bit of humor with the song title "You Can't Spell Crap Without C." It's not a hard one to figure out, just take a look at the liner notes placed inside the CD for the contributors to that track to fully understand the meaning behind this title.

D.G.A.F. - D.G.A.F.
Suburban Noize has a new act that brings the label back to what it was known for best. Putting out music acts that do not have to produce radio hits. D.G.A.F. is a hip-hop group from So-Cal bringing full throttle music to your speakers. The thirteen second intro will let you know if the CD is for you or not. D.G.A.F.'s sound is part hip-hop, dipping into the lines of metal & punk rock. The key phrase for them is the name which stands for “Don't Give A Fuck.” The track “With Us or Against Us” shows there is no middle ground with their music. For fans of Suburban Noize or the Kottonmouth Kings three of the people involved with D.G.A.F. (should be no surprise) Chucky Chuck, Saint Dog and Big Hoss. The group has two other people whom you might not have heard of; Gillies & DJ Circa . Daddy X of the Kottonmouth Kings came in and laid down his vocals on eight out of the thirteen tracks. The group of five has put out one of the first underground hit albums of 2008. www.og-dgaf.com

The Dirtball - Crook County
This is one of best and most diverse records I have heard all year. “Crook County” takes a music listener on a journey they have never been on before, placing no boundaries on music. The Dirtball has crossed musical genres and gone beyond expectations with “Crook County.” The album is filled with hard hitting rock grooves, heart pounding hip hop beats and laced with phenomenal lyrics. With “Crook County” The Dirtball used the time limitation to his best ability by managing to have 19 tracks with not one filler track that you want to skip or fast forward through to get to a hook. The persistence and hard work behind “Crook County” will give you your money’s worth. “Crook County” is filled with guest’s acts such as Big B, Lady Love, Boondox, Ceekay, that lend a comforting hand to the tracks they are featured on. This album is a definite buy for music lovers.

The Dirtball - Raptillion
What exactly is this rapper from the Northwest up to? David Alexander, aka The Dirtball, has been on a musical mission. With Dirtball's new release of Raptillion, he has once again raised the bar for himself as well as music fans. On this record you're not going to find a super list of guest appearances. Not to say the record doesn't have guests on it as it features guests such as Daddy X, Chucky Chuck aka DGAF, and Las Vegas Underground Superstar Big B. Every guests on the record complements each other's vocals on the track's they are on. They make a smooth blend to the point you don't really care who's on the track because they are on beat, making it a enjoyable track. With tracks like "Batter Swing, and Bouncin" give the listener a great club track as well as a new rap anthem. "Hait Bait, Got Love and No Left" show another side of Dirtball's love and hate and overcoming obstacles. With some of the best production done by the cast on the record. As well as smooth artwork done by Ken Adams. This is a great staple in hip-hop music, making it a great record to listen too.

Divided By Zero - The Black Sea
This is the debut release from Sik World Records. This CD is almost like picking up a book and reading chapters of every emotion from love to frustration. While it covers all these emotions it remains pure. It a hard rock CD with melodic groves. Even before you put this CD in your player. You know they put they're whole heart into it just by looking at the package. The production, done by Mikey Doling, is some of the most amazing I have heard in a long time. This CD truly covers everything a person can feel in a lifetime on one CD.

Dreamgirls
The spirit of Motown runs through the long-awaited film adaption of the Broadway musical Dreamgirls, which centers around a young female singing trio who burst upon the music scene in the '60s, complete with bouffant hairdos, glitzy gowns, and a soul sound new to the white-bread American music charts. Sound familiar? You aren't the first one to draw comparisons to the meteoric rise of the Supremes, and despite any protests to the contrary, this is most definitely a thinly veiled reinterpretation of that success story. The Dreamettes-- Deena (Beyonce Knowles), daffy Lorell (Anika Noni Rose) and brassy Effie (Jennifer Hudson) are a girl group making the talent-show rounds when they're discovered by car salesman and aspiring music manager Curtis Taylor Jr. (Jamie Foxx). Sensing greatness (as well as a new marketing opportunity) Curtis signs the Dreamettes as backup singers for R&B star James "Thunder" Early (Eddie Murphy). But when Early's ways and singing style don't mesh with primarily white audiences, Curtis moves the newly-renamed Dreams to center stage with Deena as lead singer in place of Effie. And that's not the only arena in which Effie is replaced, as Curtis abandons their love affair for a relationship with star-in-the-making Deena. Besides the Supremes comparison, one can't talk about Dreamgirls now without revisiting its notorious Oscar snub; though it received eight nominations, the most for any film from 2006, it was shut out of the Best Picture and Director races entirely. Was the oversight justified? While Dreamgirls is certainly a handsomely mounted, lovingly executed and often vibrant film adaptation, it inspires more respect than passion, only getting under your skin during the musical numbers, which become more sporadic as the film goes on. Writer-director Bill Condon is definitely focused on recreating the Motown milieu. He often forgets to flesh out his characters, who even on the Broadway stage were underwritten and relied on powerhouse performances to sell them to audiences. Condon has assembled a game cast, as Knowles does a canny riff on the essence of Diana Ross' glamour and Rose makes a peripheral character surprisingly vibrant; only Foxx, who never gets to pour on the charisma, is miscast. Still, there are two things even the most cranky viewers will warm to in Dreamgirls, the performances of veteran Eddie Murphy and newcomer Jennifer Hudson. Murphy is all sly charm and dazzling energy as the devilish Early, who's part James Brown part Little Richard, and all showman. And Hudson, an American Idol contestant who didn't even make the top three, makes an impressive debut as the larger-than-life Effie, whose voice matches her passion and stubbornness. Though she sometimes may seem too young for the role, Hudson nails the movie's signature song, "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going," with a breathtaking power that must be seen and heard to believe. And for those five minutes, if not more, you will be in Dreamgirls ' thrall. Dedpening on your budget and love of DVD extras, their is two versions on the market. A standard edition with a few extras and a two-disc showstopper edition that takes you behind the scenes and making of.

Dog Boy- Rebel Riddim
"People want to label everything in today's culture, but I just write songs and the songs just dictate what style or direction they go. Ultimately, the people validate the music.”
Dog boy has come up to release his first solo CD for Suburban Noize Records "Rebel Riddim." Dog Boy was featured on the first three KottonMouth Kings albums writing such hits as “Dogs Life” and “On the Run,” as well as singing and collaborating on various other songs for the Kottonmouth King on “Royal Highness”, High Society” and “Hidden Stash II.” This CD will be judged by people before they actual listen to it. I can't lie, I was thinking like a lot of you thinking the only reason the CD is coming out is he is friends with the Kottonmouth Kings. I put on the CD and it was surprisingly good. The first track "Return of the One Drop" is a soul lifting song that you can listen to on a bad day and should lift your spirits. Then the track "Can't Buy Soul," a retro-sounding ‘60s influenced classic. "Rebel Riddim” is a unique blend of styles incorporating influences from Reggae, Hip Hop and Pop sensibilities, making this one of the most refreshing and interesting releases put out for 07. If you enjoyed Matisayhu work, definitely give Dog Boy a chance for your ears.

![A Dog Named Dutch - [Self-Titled]](../editrevimages/adnd.jpg)
A Dog Named Dutch - [Self-Titled]
Independent rock act A Dog Named Dutch put together their full length CD together with 15 tracks. The CD goes all over the place. One of the strongest tracks, "No Mas," is catchy and filled with a great rock sound. I know a lot of artists think the more tracks the better you sell, that is not always true. A Dog Named Dutch has a good CD but song placement on the CD is too much like a roller coaster for myself, which can be ok to people that actually know the band before purchasing the CD. For outside listeners it can be a bit confusing. The CD could have been a little stronger if some of the tracks were cut. A Dog Named Dutch may not be the best band on the market, but made descent rock music for rock fans of all ages.

ED Gein (The Butcher of Plainfield)
Kane Hoder (mostly known for playing Jason Voorhees in the Friday The 13th movie series) plays Ed Gien as one of the most notorious serial killers in American history. Ed Gien the killer, lead to inspire killers in Psycho and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. So if you take that into account you have one horrific story alone to tell a movie audience. Well, this moive is a bad soap opera with blood and guts. The story is not really there, and moves too fast where you don't care about any chacter. Kane Hodder does what he can for this movie but the script is bad. The score in parts seemed very cheesy, as if taken from a day time soap opera. So I can go on and on and on about why the movie is horrible. The real story of Ed Gein is one that you tell a friend and scary them on the fact of how it's true and horribile. When you watch this movie it gives a feel that noone took this project serious in anyway. Even if the movie was not called or even about Ed Gein this movie would just be a cheap low budget horror movie like the other billions that come out each year. Two Left Shoes films put out a couple of films a couple of years back about Dahmer, Ed Gein, and Ted Bundy to name a few. That tell stories that are not even in the same league as this Lion Gates film. The movie was put out for one simple reason there is already an established fan based in horror and serial killers.

11th Hour
Environmental documentary 11th Hour resides at the polar opposite of an escapist summer fare. The mission of this film is to firmly confront viewers about the indelible human footprint that humans have left on this planet and the catastrophic effects of environmental neglect and abuse. Produced and narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio and ably directed by Nadia Conners and Leila Conners Peterson the documentary doesn't get much fancier than talking heads, news footage and the occasional animated illustration but its message is potent and delivered effectively. The first hour of the film is essentially a horror story recounting the myriad sins perpetrated against the environment (pollution, deforestation, over-mining resources, ect) the reasons behind it (corporate greed, faulty public policy, bad leadership, ignorance, ect) and what it means for the human race. Thankfully the last third of the movie tilts the mood upward with a spirited discussion of solutions offered by a crack team of scientists, designers and thinkers, stirring visions of alternate energy sources, diversified transportation, enlightened governmental agendas, sustainable homes and cities, and most importantly more conscious consumer choices, leave viewers with the palpable feeling that change is both necessary and possible. If the "11th Hour" for our planet is drawing near this admirable film points confidently towards a new dawn.

![Emery - I'm Only a Man [Speical Edition] (CD/DVD)](../editrevimages/emery.jpg)
Emery - I'm Only a Man [Special Edition] (CD/DVD)
Tooth and Nail recording artist Emery now have three total records (excluding special and deluxe editions). "I'm only a Man" is the third release from the rock act Emery. The CD portion is just a great follow up showing how the band has grown musically. Take Emery's previous release's and merge them together and you get "I'm Only a Man," which has a similar feel to their previous work, but it has it's own traits as well. So fans of Emery will feel like they are getting something familiar but something new as well. Songs such as the second track "The Party Song" can be taken as a dark pop anthem. It is reminiscent to their other work for having dark lyrics with high energy music to back it up. "Don't Bore us, Get to the Chorus" is one of the most fitting titles for a song to date. The track goes from a R&B feel to a mellow feel then to a high rock dance chorus changing it up enough within the song to go all across the board. Changing so much that you can forget for almost one second that it is just one song. "I'm A Man" has eleven tracks in total, but on the special edition version they included an extra five acoustic/live tracks. Also on the special edition they threw a great DVD with the package.

Escape The Fate - Dying is Your Latest Fashion
Time to put your eyeliner on and swing your pretend microphone, all while your at your local Hot Topic store. Escape the Fate is a band with catchy verses and music. It's time to sing, then lets add a scream, wait it's time to break it down and get pissed off like your in a death metal band. On the CD, their is a sticker that says " For Fans of...," then it list a range of artists that are popular on the emo/hardcore circuit. It should have said for fans that like typical music put out now-a-days. Escape the Fate seemed to try to get something new happening here, but it just didn't happen. Don't get me wrong, the CD is not horrible but it is typical music. The only time on the CD they tried to get out of their comfort zone was on the track "Cellar Door." It's only in parts of the song does it have a different feel then other songs on the CD. If you're sixteen and not happy with life and hate the fact that Fall out Boy is popular, then thank Epitaph Records for making music that seems genuine to you. This CD is about as original as Vince Vaughn was in Psycho.

An Evening Kevin Smith 2 - Evening Harder (DVD)
While watching An Evening with Kevin Smith 2 , you may ask yourself, "Why should I give a Fuck about anything Kevin Smith has to say?"and then you'll be laughing in agreement with a lot of what he says. For better or worse, the potty-mouthed creator of Clerks and Dogma is an expert at combining his own "View Askew" perspective with stand-up comedy and ribald Q&A with appreciative audiences. If you are a fan of Kevin Smith, then this is a must-have. Go and buy this right now! Trust me, you will not regret it for a second. Hey, I even recommend this for all of Smith's negative critics. Maybe they can take something positive from it all. I was really impressed. You'll laugh and learn at the same time. Now who often does that happen?

The Expendables - [Self-Titled]
Take a little rock, a little punk, then top it off with some reggae. The Expendables make we want jump on a flight to California and enjoy the blue sky. "One More Night" has such a high energy feel you want to jump on a skateboard and enjoy your youth. "Ganja Smuggling" has to be one of the smoothest tracks on the record. As it is a clean, simple and sexy track that you can lay back to. Fans of 311 and Sublime will love The Expendables, no questions asked.

Eyes Set To Kill - Reach
Eyes Set to Kill have already made a mark with their first E.P. hitting #2 on the charts of popular retail store SmartPunk.com. Now selling more than 11,000 copies of it, Eyes Set to Kill have released their full length CD “Reach.” This screamo rock act comes from the hot desert of Phoenix, AZ. Being from such a hot place, with heart felt lyrics, hard pounding music is enough to make the North Pole melt. “Reach” is good enough at face value or even better on a deeper level. As the record plays you can't deny the passion they have for the music they are playing.

Fallout Boy - Infinty on High
Fallout Boy is determined to stay mainstream and not underground. Jay-Z appears on the opening track "Thriller." I did not find Jay-Z appearing on the track to be very cool. It seemed to be a weak attempt to sell more records. Which is sad, because the record is actual good. Patrick shows off more of his singing abilities on this record. You can label Fallout Boy's new record anything, but when it comes down to it... it's pop. This is far from a classic CD, but it's a good listen. You can hear some Panic! At The Disco sound thoughout the record. It makes you wonder how big does Fallout Boy or thier lable want them to be.

Family Force 5 - Business Up Front, Party In The Back (Diamond Edition)
Don't judge a book by it's cover. I had never heard of Family Force 5 before putting on this record. So I had no clue what style of music it was. The outter package displays a large black cover art with a sparkly Family Force 5 logo and after you take that off then you are introduced to the album art: a red background, and a skull and crossbones (the crossbones being keyboards of some sort). Putting the Family Force 5 disc in my player the music has nice crunchy guitars with upbeat clean vocals tracks. This cd made me feel like I was in high school again. Especially the track "Supersonic." With its great fun, their music is super catchy. The lyrics are a bit repetitive and can be consider cheesy, at times, but in the end it's one mind blowing fun ride.

Family Guy Presents: Blue Harvest (DVD)
Take the two things that geeks and you can't go wrong. Family guy creator Seth MacFarlane took “Star Wars” and made the best spoof film ever. Blue Harvest is a must for both “Star Wars” and Family Guy fans alike. Blue Harvest is told by Family Guy's Peter Griffin during a night that the Griffin's lose power in their home. The DVD is packaged with extras including a conversation between Seth MacFarlane and “Stars Wars” creator George Lucas. Keep an eye for a cameo from Meg during Peter's telling of the story.

Farce of the Penguins
Keep your young child in another room! Written and directed by Bob Saget, highlights the penguins' lascivious side, as the male's march inland to find mating partners. Overdubbed with human voices, Farce stars three penguins, Carl (Bob Saget), a neurotic, insecure bird whose search for true love has so far been in vain, Jimmy (Lewis Black), a mobster-like father figure who encourages Carl to keep up hope, and Marcus (Tracy Morgan), a smooth, African American penguin with a self-professed huge penis. Miles away, as the men journey inward, fighting off seals and engaging in therapy sessions with snowy owls along the way, Vicky (Mo'nique) tells Melissa (Christina Applegate) that someday her Prince Charming will come, which, predictably, he does. Watching penguins discussing the meaning of life, questioning their annual masochistic hike through tundra, or wondering if they have eating disorders is funny for about ten minutes. Samuel Jackson, the ultimate omniscient narrator, furthering the story between scenes is also odd and laughable. Farce of the Penguins is a fun idea perhaps taken too far. Nonetheless, there is always something pleasing about anthropomorphizing animals, especially for lovers of crude sex jokes.

The Feeling Mutual -The Feeling Mutual E.P.
The band wears their influences on their sleeves, from the driving rock of the Foo Fighters-sounding “Monolith,” to the layered 90's pop of the Smashing Pumpkins-inspired “Soul Korea,” This band manages to be different enough to not sound like clones. “Black Cloud Dream” sounds as though Kurt Cobain could have written it while the power pop of “Ring Me Out” conjures up images of Superstar and Car Wash -era Goo Goo Dolls. The latter in particular is a standout track on the album with its endless hooks and anthem like chorus. The band ends the EP on a somber note, with the appropriately titled “Sleep,” a moody track filled with dynamics in an otherwise vast sea of power pop. It's an interesting direction the band could take on with future releases. While The Feelings Mutual's sound is a familiar one it's definitely not a rip off. The band displays enough diversity on their EP to satisfy the harshest rock critics and make them wonder what is in the near future for them. www.thefeelingsmutual.com |

Final Destination 3 (DVD)(2006)
Giddily gruesome and perversely entertaining, Final Destination 3 proves, yet again, that horror franchises will thrive as long as teenagers keep finding spectacular ways to die. A stand-alone sequel to the first two Final Destination thrillers, this one begins when a group of seven high-school graduates luckily escape from a deadly roller-coaster disaster, only to discover that their own deaths have been only temporarily avoided. Cute brunette Wendy (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) spots clues of impending doom in digital photos of her soon-to-be-expiring classmates, and an ill wind follows her everywhere, suggesting the presence of a supernatural force that makes her a catalyst for gory events, as each of her friends is dispatched in the order they were meant to die. Returning to give their brainchild a suspenseful, low-budget makeover, franchise creators and former X-Files writers James Wong and Glen Morgan cleverly play on our collective fears (the roller coaster sequence is genuinely terrifying) with a knowing nod to violent urban legends, which explains their inclusion of the '70s hit "Love Roller Coaster" on the soundtrack when two stuck-up girlfriends pay an ill-fated visit to a tanning parlor. And that's just for starters: With Wong as director, FD3 serves up its grisly deaths with tight pacing and humor, and the cathartic carnage is discreetly edited yet gory enough to satisfy hardcore horror buffs. When morbid mayhem is this much fun, it's a safe bet that another sequel is just around the corner

Fired
They say that when life hands you a lemon, make lemonade. Well, that's pretty much what actress/comedienne Annabelle Gurwitch did when she was summarily fired from a Woody Allen play. She turned her experience first into a successful stage show, and then into a feature-length documentary, appropriately entitled "Fired!" "Fired!" did not really know what it wanted to be. There are quite a few comedy bits inserted into the film that undermine the documentary feel.

The Futureheads - News and Tributes
Best known for a spastic, heavily accented post-punk cover of Kate Bush's "Hounds of Love" that went Top 10 in the UK, this British quartet attempts to kick away from its '80s-inspired comrades--such as Franz Ferdinand and Kaiser Chiefs--on their second album. Not that there's any shortage of spiky riffs, jerky rhythms, and off-kilter harmonies on News and Tributes . But get past the more pedestrian fare like "Yes/No" and "Return of the Berserker," and the full scope of the Futureheads' ambition reveals itself, particularly in the poppiest track, "Skip To The End." Meanwhile, "Thursday" is laced with a distinct doo-wop feel, "Favours for Favours" shows the band's softer side, and the jagged "Burnt" proves that the group can approach greatness on a song of its very own. Overall, this should satisfy those like myself who are into the neo-new wave/punk/romantic movement that also includes The Killers, Interpol, Kaiser Chiefs, Arcade Fire, Bloc Party, Rock Kills Kid and others.

1408 [Single disc]
This is one of those films that you keeping hearing is terrifying, especially when you hear that Steven King wrote the short story that 1408 is based on. You figure if King had apart in this it has to be scary. Well it starts off with a man going into the forbidden room and scary tidbits happen here and there. Then it takes full circle where you should tell yourself this would be scary if I was reading it. Maybe it is just me but if I was reading the short story and imagining the scary events happen taking place in the story, I would have at the very least had an erie effect on the mind. Maybe hollywood should have left this alone, but then again it might make people want to pick up a book and read again. Kudos to the cast of actors and crew for trying to take one of the hardest stories Steven King has wrote and put it on film.

Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Ash [Comic Book]
The internet buzz on the sequel to Freddy Vs. Jason has been the most talked about horror movie for some years now. Well, horror fans, we didn’t get a movie sequel, we got the next best thing, a comic book series. Picking up five years after the events of Freddy vs. Jason, Camp Crystal Lake has re-established itself and is beginning to change its name to Forest Green once again. Freddy Krueger is still alive, but only exists in the subconscious of Jason Voorhees, hanging by a string, and the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis has been resting in the Voorhees house since 1993. Recently Ash has been called in to get the employees of a new S-Mart "into shape." As of the first issue, he has no idea the book is at Crystal Lake, meanwhile, after Jason kills Will and Lori Campbell (the remaining survivors from Freddy vs. Jason, having returned to town for the closure of being certain Freddy and Jason are gone), Freddy learns of the Necronomicon's existence and the powers Jason uses as a tool to try to get it. He does this by, once again, using Jason's dead mother to trick him. He has "mommy" tell him that the only way to get rid of Freddy is with the Necronomicon, but also that its power can turn Jason into "a real boy." Freddy also learns how he can use it to not just escape but to become more powerful than ever. Ash arrives in Crystal Lake in the second issue and meets three girls whom he greets flirtatiously. However the teenage employees make numerous references to him being old. Immediately afterwards, Jason appears and murders the three girls. Ash finds the scene of the crime and believes it to be Deadites. The teenagers laugh at Ash's story except for one girl named Caroline who actually listens to Ash's history and tells him about Jason Voorhees. Ash assumes that Jason is a Deadite. Ash fights a teenager who disguises himself as Jason as a prank but Ash nearly chokes him. Jason has a dream in which Freddy acts as Jason's father and tells him to get the Necronomicon for him. Jason then returns from his dream and kills several Christmas Carolers. Oh my, I am giving out too many details. If you can’t tell I really enjoy this series. After reading this I have gained respect for comic books and the horror genre again. Not that it ever went away but it seemed no one was really taking things serious in either profession. Since the books did sell really well they will be reprinted in a graphic novel format this year. This will not be a movie due to “Evil Dead” Creator Sam Raimi, he decided against it since he would not have creative control over the character of Ash.
